Crankset recs

Suppose you had a Campagnolo 12 speed group, but didn't want to use the Campy cranks. What cranks would you use to (a) be compatible, which I don't think is a big issue, and (b) complement the aesthetic of the 12 speed bits?

I've considered Appleman and PraxisWorks as viable options. Any others?

I think the Praxis Zayante carbon cranks are some of the classiest looking cranks around.

I too like the Praxis Zayante carbon cranks, though I have only used them with a Campy 11 speed build -- shifting was excellent and I like the look. However, Praxis doesn't make a ITA BB so if your bike has that it's a major PITA to make them work (or at least it was, I haven't looked in a while).

In the non-exorbitant category I'd consider Rotor and White Industries, though the last time I looked WI said the VBC aren't compatible with Campy 12. In the "price is no deterrent" category, EEWings, Sturdy, and THM Clavicula. Note that I don't have any experience with any of these.

You want a 12sp compatible crank that compliments the 12sp campagnolo group.

What is it about the Campagnolo cranks you don't like?

I think you get it pretty well. Can’t make carbon shiny without painting. I’ve got a lot of buffing wheels and polishing compound, but I don’t want to paint.

The Al bits on my Chorus group are shining up nicely, but the cranks won’t.
Admittedly it’s not the best group to do this with, but I’m finding that 12sp Chorus is honestly just as cheap to find as older Campy bits still in good shape.

How about the Easton EA (aluminum) crank? Those are pretty nice, once you get a decent aluminum preload collar.

I had thought of Easton but kept seeing a lot of EC90s, completely forgetting there were EA90s as well. Appreciate the reminder!

The current Praxis Zayantes are carbon now, yeah? Gonna need to go 1 gen backwards or current Alba, I guess.

Definitely not springing for eeWings or the Sturdy ones. Very dear stuff, that.

I got a new Bishop item4 built with Chorus disc. The components on that will stay matchy-matchy. I’m taking some liberties with a Chorus 12 rim group to put on the old 333, like maxcolumbus’ Hampsten, only shinier.

If you want aluminium, the Rene Herse crank is 12 speed compatible. Requires a square taper BB. I think the White Industries is also an option.

That being said, I love the Campy carbon cranksets.
