Fake 2017 Colnago C60 56s

As was pointed out below, the frame is a fake. The person I bought it from is going to do the stand up thing and take the bike back. I'm going to leave the thread and photos up for educational purposes.

That is NOT a real C60. I work with closely with Colnago North America and have sold a handful of legit Colnago C60 framesets. I hate to be that guy, but can I assure you this is a knockoff.

How can I tell? The person I bought it from represented it as genuine purchased new from Merlin. Not questioning your expertise, but really want to know. I know vintage steel really well, but cf frames are not in my wheelhouse.

Dead give away was the removable cable stops. A real C60 has fixed cable stops(rear brake stops are known for the paint lifting at that area over time). Yes a real C60 can be run mechanical or electric shifting but the DT stops still are not removable, but parts kit that comes with the frameset includes bits to make any drivetrain setup look clean(including a flush plug for DT stop if running Di2. The "shift cables" run internally though the DT but exit under the BB and run external to the RD with an external housing stop under the chainstay(is bolted on and not rivited in the case of runnning electronic drivetrain.

Oh and that "enve" stem is fake too. On a real ENVE stem, both pinch bolts thread in from the same side, and they don't thread into an aluminium insert like pictured above.

Because it has Shimano installed

In all seriousness, Elliott points out the cable stops on the chainstay. They should be external. Also the cable stops at the headtube area are pressed/glued in on a real C60, not held in by the alloy screw. Also check on the underside of the DT where there is the EPS charging port. How many ports? And there should be a Colnago sticker with a legitimate serial number.

Here's a good graphical reference of things to look for:

Non-bb82.5 and the RD hanger are also a dead give away.

Thanks for the clarifications and info about how to ID a counterfeit. In over 30 years of riding, buying and selling many, many bikes and this is the first time I've purchased a fake. Looks like I didn't do my due diligence on this one. I'm going to take the FS ad down now. The guy I purchased it from is local, and because it was represented it as real, I'm going to take it up with him.

I can assure you I wasn't trying to hoodwink any paceliners. God knows this would be the worst place imaginable to sell a fake, as it would be pointed out in about two minutes. Which is exactly what happened.

Damn, did the same guy sell you the fake Enve stem too?

You guys are sharp. I just don’t get the point of faking and Enve stem or a Colnago frame. If you have the capabilities to build a frame this nice wouldn’t you want to brand it as your own? I would.

Yep—fake stem came with the bike.
