Custom Racks

I currently have a Rene Herse UD-2 rack mounted onto one of my bicycles. It is functional and fits well, but it is heavy and not aesthetically motivating. The RH UD-1 rack would be swell, but it does not fit. My canti posts are spaced a little too far apart for it to fit.

What are the options for custom rack fabricators? I found Ti Cycles during a Google search, but not any others.

Has anyone had a custom rack made recently? Any thoughts about a good fabricator for the job?

Reach out to Mark Bulgier in Washington. You can find him on bikeforums, screen name Bulgie. He does a lot of custom racks for people, here's a link to his Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/gugie/with/53583819271

That's not Mark Bulgier, it's Mark Guglielmana (don't try to say it).

Don’t let the one post count fool ya, he’s legit and does quality work. Just don’t believe him when he tells about winning certain town line sprints.

Mark (@gugie) does great work. He's usually over on BikeForums and not here.

Yep,first class guy who does first class work.
He just finished custom front and rear racks for my new Kirk build, matching them not only to the frame, but also to the brake calipers and custom WaxWing bags.

Not just racks, simply superb decaleurs, too.

Oh, this is the referral of the day for me, as well.

Just got a gravel frame that I want to put fast, small dynamo lights on and can't get the idea out of my head that custom racks *aren't* the way to go...

Super interested here...

Shots taken by Gugie at the Atelier. Decaleur shown was not the one eventually used because it required too large a spacer under the stem.

Mark (Gugie) does great work. The devil is always in the details, and with rack fitting-especially for a bar bag- it is not just one devil but a whole brace of demons. It is not just the fabrication but the fitting, fiddling, etc. One could design an entire bicycle around the need for a bar bag, and in the golden era of the randonneur bike that was often the case. On a recent visit to Cycles Alex Singer, Olivier was working on a batch of front racks. I asked him about how much time it took to work out the details and construct a typical rack. There was a thoughtful pause before he answered, “We don’t count the hours”……
