Giant tubeless sealant boulder
Changed some MTB tires last night and found this giant boulder of solidified tubeless sealant bouncing around in my front tire. Don't remember ever having an issue with that tire, not a puncture or losing air, and yet this huge thing was bouncing around in it.
Any idea what causes something like that? |

How old is the sealant? Was the bike sitting for some time?

This is from a daily driver commuter / mtb. Other tire had plenty of sealant still in it. |

I had "marbles" from Stan's a few times. I've been on Orange Seal since 2018, and over the weekend, I pulled the tires off my gravel wheels that have been sitting for over a year to clean them out. No hard stuff, just a bunch of gummy sealant that mostly peeled off in one piece.

Commonally referred to as "Stanimals".

The Orange Seal version of these is fun because it looks like some kind of weird invertebrate sea creature and it can make mysterious "swooshing" sounds inside your tires as it spins around.

Tossed it before I could weigh it, but I'm thinking it was something like a medium sized candy bar??
Everyone who said Stan's is 100% correct. I also realize now that I'd lately been hearing a weird swooshing sound at low speed when I started pedaling but hadn't gotten around to trouble shooting it. Guess this was the culprit? |

You must have mixed sealants because OS does not booger. It dries in a solid puddle if you don't use the bike/rotate the wheels for a long time.

Off topic but:
everytime I read your title my mind thinks of a Giant branded tire sealant in Colorado. |

Wow, I have used Stan’s or Stan’s Race exclusively (Orange Seal 1x) for almost 9 years and literally 100 tires and have never had much more than some boogers. Tires and sealant were changed out probably monthly but sat over the winter for 5 months and nothing looks like that. I do get the Race nuggets but that is to be expected. How many times was that topped off without cleaning?

Maybe this was caused by CO2?

I think Stans changed the ingredients some time in the last few years. I changed sealant.
