Rugged little UTE...

A JDM 1994 Diahatsu Rocky

AKA: The Toyota Blizzard. Diahatsu is the longest running engine maker in Japan. Toyota has been part owner in increasing degrees from at least the 1960's culminating in full ownership in 2016. Think Suzuki Samurai only more rugged with a wider footprint. A Fun and rugged little ute currently on the local market.

Most folks don't remember...or never knew that Diahatsu was in the US market for about six years. Came at a bad economic time though and with so few dealerships didn't get any national marketing running. That said you can find LHD Rocky's around the States. This one needs some interior updates but otherwise seems to be in very good condition. Might have to see if I can actually fit in this one.

There's a few sweet JDM importers in VA.

I always go looking at their minty looking mr2s and end up lusting after J80s.

I was just talking to my daughter about this

https://jdmcarimport.com/wp-content/...nversion-1.jpg

It is for sale in Vancouver BC for less than US$8000 but cannot yet be imported to the USA but is legal in Canada.

It is more than likely unconstitutional to revoke registrations on solely a very small subsection of vehicles, without needing to go through all vehicles on the road and treating them all by the exact same standards. I have a car currently onboard a ship arriving from Japan in the next ten days. It has however passed all applicable European crash tests with very high marks for the year of manufacture and has also passed emissions tests in Europe that are more severe that the federal mandates.

I am doing the logical thing, I bought a RHD French car from Japan... I figured if my old LHD French car ended up with super satisfied owner in Japan, why not go the other way and buy a French car there and bring it here. In Canada we can import after 15 years (the one I bought is 19 years old) and it has metric gauges just like here. Japan has some of the strictest inspection rules anywhere in the world, so the cars tend to be very well-maintained, in particular the more expensive ones and they have low low mileage. The one I am getting has less than 40K miles, so less than 2,000 miles per year (one single owner). To get the same car with LHD in Europe would cost me double and the shipping would also be double and the likelihood of a shady used car dealer is much much higher in Europe! The ETA of the ship in Port Hueneme in California is in 6 hours, after which it then travels north to Vancouver.

Is anyone getting these JDM cars registered in California? Like in the past six months? I am getting mixed opinions whether it can be done or not.
