Basic U.S-made steel all-road/gravel with custom paint

You're not going to find a high-ticket custom frame story here. Or paint for that matter. I wanted to try something different.

This started life as a quasi-production frame, built in the US under the Grava Bikes logo. They were out of NC and also had some nice carbon frames aimed at CX. This one is mainly Zona tubing with a TRP carbon fork (15mm), 44mm HT, PF30 BB, post mount brakes and external cable mounting.

The first order of business was stripping the existing bland powder coat and decals. Picture shows how it came to me. I handled the painting using colors I had on hand. These are spray.bike paints. It's not show quality but it came out quite to my satisfaction.

I was able to get my hands on the new AXS XPLR set, so will see how the new 10-44 range works, since this will see it's fair share of tarmac.

Here's the build:
- Force AXS shifters, mechanical braking
- Force AXS XPLR RD
- SRAM Red crankset, Quarq DZero PM spider
- Wolftooth 42t chainring
- Zipp Service Course SL stem
- CK headset
- VO rando bars
- AXS XPLR XG-1271 10-44 cassette
- Juin GT-P 4-piston hybrid brake calipers
- Specialized carbon post
- NOX Falkor 36 carbon rims w/i9 Torch hubs
- GK 38mm slicks
- Generic saddle (Pro Stealth like copy, cheap and comfy!)
- Shimano 9100 SPD pedals
- Jagwire Pro cables

Build came in at just around 20.5 pounds. First ride and it was smooth, responsive, no creaking or cracking noises and the AXS shifting was spot on. Just waiting on my Zona and Made in the USA decals. Let me know if you have any questions.

NOX Falkor 36D rims, i9 Torch CL hubs and CX-Ray spokes. They're 20mm internal.

Looks great!
Curious if you weighed the frame?

Like the paint, Rob! Very well done! What’s the front ring size and how does the chain line compare to grx?

Thanks!

It’s a Wolf Tooth AXS compatible 42t in front. Standard chain line unlike the AXS Wide versions which push it out some similar to GRX. I believe GRX is +2.5.

Might go 44t to have a 1:1 ratio. Need to check the clearance.

I'm not familiar with NOX, but they sound like a perfect road wheelset.
