So with the 9-36 cassette it works perfectly, but when you move to the 9-42 cassette it won't shift to the last two cogs?

Also, I don't understand the comment about the derailleur cage almost rubbing on the cassette. The cage should not be able to touch anything - only the pulley wheel should rub against the cassette. Are you setting the b-tension with the RD on the second to last big cog on the cassette? Could the 650b wheels be an issue? Have you tried putting the 9-42 cassette on the "road" wheels?

Also, have you messed with limit screws?

When shifting to the largest 2 cogs, you can make the derailleur cage rub on the next larger cog. Yes, I've messed with the limit screws endlessly.
I haven't tried putting the 9-42 cassette on the road wheels. I will try that.
BTW, the bike came built stock with 650b wheels and the 9-42 cassette and it shifted fine for a number of months.

I think if the cage is hitting the cog, it suggests something is wrong. The b-tension screw should only move the pulley up and down. The back part of the cage should be well below the last cog when in the penultimate cog. The inner part of the cage should be close but should not touch. I wonder if the RD is bent or damaged. Will try to post some pictures of my RD when in the penultimate cog tonight - showing the spacing between the cage and cassette.

I *assume* you're way beyond this....but... when I swapped from 700c to 650b wheels recently I inadvertently locked the rear derailleur in its vertical position.

Shifted like crap. Then I learned that there is a lock function and a button to unlock the derailleur.

So here is what my RD looks like in the penultimate cog. Sorry for the dirt, I need to clean the bike!

The cage is below the RD. Is this how your RD looks in this position?

Yes. I also tried just grabbing the URL from your post and putting it into the browser, no luck. Perhaps the permissions aren't set for all to view?

Ha! yes, it's happened to me a few times. It really shifts like crap then.

So in conclusion, you just want to get that Ekar derailleur pulley as absolutely close as possible to the cogs, right?
