Are you setting the b-tension with the RD on the second to last big cog on the cassette? Could the 650b wheels be an issue? Have you tried putting the 9-42 cassette on the "road" wheels? Also, have you messed with limit screws? |

I *assume* you're way beyond this....but... when I swapped from 700c to 650b wheels recently I inadvertently locked the rear derailleur in its vertical position.
Shifted like crap. Then I learned that there is a lock function and a button to unlock the derailleur.
