That was the bike I wanted when I got mine, but Chris did not want to build anymore in a 21 inch size due to issues he was having with them.

Yours looks great.

I didn't know that. I would ideally ride a slightly bigger frame, but I never see any. This is very late 90's race geo with a low front end. I've a Noleen suspension fork with 100mm I'll throw on at some point just to try (with Chris's blessing, he says it's fine to run the longer fork).

Here’s the Cannondale Killer V I just rebuilt. Haven’t had a chance to ride it 0 just wrapped up assembly this morning.



1994 Killer V frame/fork
SRAM Force 1 RD with Apex shifter and Force 10-42 cassette
New DiaCompe brakes
Wheels are original - I swapped the axle/FH from a NOS 9 speed hub, as the rear was the shorter 7 speed FH from the factory.
Kenda SB8 tires
Parts bin Easton seatpost and Bontrager saddle
Canyon OS stem and a cheap Truvativ bar

This replaces the 1984 Stumpjumper I built a few years ag - it was a bit small for me. Main use will be errands and pub/cafe runs. But, RJ and Blantonator are trying to talk me into a PNW bikepacking trip on vintage bikes, so maybe that too.

Turn of the century (2000) Serotta Colorado Soft Tail (CST)

My old cross country race rig ... from a quarter century ago.

When i got it, it was equipped with an 80mm Manitou Mars front shock, and 1.8" tires. Climbed like a rocket, but downhills and hitting corners at speed were a bit rough & sketchy.

Over the years, I experimented with adjustable travel front shocks and wider tires. Currently has a Reba Race 90-120mm adjustable travel front shock and 2.2" Specialized tires (The Captain & Purgatory). Also added Formula Oro brakes to the original 3x9 XTR M952 cranks & derailleurs which still shift like a dream. The rear Stratos air shock (~25mm travel) with lockout still work and reduce rear end harshness. Recently replaced the flat front bar with a riser to provide some relief for my 68 year old degenerating spine.

Many happy memories on this rig - from a 5 day cross-country ride (Telluride to Moab) with my 6th grade son, to racing with him through his teens in the Winter Park summer XC series. Still ride the CST on tamer trails around Boulder, and full-moon night rides through the fall & spring. (For knarly trails, I ride a plush '23 Specialized Stumpy Evo with 6" travel ...)

Question for the forum philosophers: how many bikes built in 2024 do you think will still be serviceable & used in 2049?
