Remember, gofundme is a for-profit. They take 3%. I’m assuming forum donation is 100% to Keith?

I’d rather go forum donation route.
If we donate to Paceline, would he have an issue accessing funds for himself? No clue ow this place is set up.

I donated to the forum a few weeks ago, and wondered why I didn’t get an acknowledgment. Now I know why.

My personal opinion is we should wait until we find out exactly what is happening. It sounds like a pretty bad accident. I’ve been in bad accidents. I’m not sure how old Keith is but recovery is slower when you’re older.

I wouldn’t rush to buy him a bicycle that he may not ever be able to use.

I have no idea what kind of insurance he has, and what it might cover.

I think I speak for a lot of people here that we all really appreciate everything he does and we would do anything to help him in his family.

How about we wait for the family to chime in?

Hopefully someone here is in contact with his family, and if they have needs for Keith’s care, they should express it here.

This is a fantastic community, and I’m sure we can make things better for Keith and his family.

Getting hurt when you’re older is never good. From the details we were given, as sounds like he’s going to have a rough road. It would be nice if we could keep the support up long-term rather than just in the next few weeks.

It sounds like it may be a long-term rehab.

I’m in for the long-term, and I’m sure most people here are as well.

In spite of 12 years of parochial school and working in overseas missions for a couple of years, I’m not a very religious person, so I’m not going to offer Thoughts and Prayers. I am willing to donate as much money as I can spare, if the family needs it.

That being said, Inshallah.

Very thoughtful of all you guys!

I'd suggest we give it just a little bit of time to see if any new info emerges to better understand what would be most helpful.

I was thinking if he has to be sitting around healing for long periods of time, maybe we could collect up a care package of cycling magazines, dvds stuff like that.

Hopefully we can get more details soon, and super hopefully those details are positive.

I’m not sure. When I hit “Donate,” it goes to someone named “Daniel Arbuckle” whom I assume is a family member.

Maybe best to wait and find out.

Couldn’t have said it any better. You’ve got a bunch of folks pulling for you!

I agree that it's best to wait until Keith and his family have a chance to sort out the finances of the accident. I am comfortable with/in favor of sending donations directly to Keith rather than a gofundme or similar. Donations here go directly to him if I'm not mistaken but it would be better to have a separate destination for the medical expenses - just to make it simpler for whoever is administering the funds.

I've known Keith for many years now . . .

. . . and without him this forum and all it represents would not exist. It's as simple as that.

When we went independent and changed our name from the Serotta Forum to The Paceline in February of 2012, Keith was instrumental in lending a guiding hand to the rest of us moderators on technical and ethical issues and doing all the behind-the-scenes grunt logistical work that made it happen. He is a better friend to cycling and to all of you than you may have realized in the past.

I just donated to the GoFundMe that has been set up to help his family deal with the expenses of his rehabilitation, and I hope you will also go take a look at it and consider donating to a super nice guy who has made this special online place possible for all of us.

Best wishes to you, Keith, for a speedy recovery without lasting problems!

I'm in. But as it was said, let's wait to get some more details. The idea of a bicyle for him is lovely!

Send money for a new bike. There are enough of us to make a sizeable contribution, if not pay outright for something nice.

Excellent. I just made a contribution to the new bike (or something else good) fund. Let’s hope Keith recovers quickly and get’s back on a bike. It can be tough to remain enthusiastic after trauma like he experienced, and it can be really difficult for a spouse and family.

You could donate . . .

. . . to the GoFundMe to help his family with rehab-related expenses.

Why does the GoFundMe page say "Your donation will benefit Burt Gordon"
