Got a question for the group: I pinch flatted going into the last lap on Saturday. I don't race with an extra set of wheels or bike so I headed to the pressure washer early, but after the race I was thinking that I should have run the last lap to at least receive points in the standings for finishing. This is almost laughable as I'm not competitive in the overall season standings but still why not. What I'm not sure about and this may change based on location but my flat happened right at the start / finish line. Could I have run the 3 km course and left my bike at the line or would I have had to run-roll my bike the length of the course? Anyone know what the official rules are, say, this happening in a UCI World Cup?

Like they used to tell the Greek kids: you come back with your bike or on it.

Second rolled tire of my life -- both in cross races (the first involved what turned out to be a defective -- and eventually recalled -- batch of conti cement). Went down, obviously, got up, figured it out, jogged the last half of the third lap and then pulled myself.

New event out towards Annapolis and I gather Laura Van Gilder helped lay out the course. Mostly a fast grassy course with a small mountain in the middle. Nice spot.

I guess we're really lucky in New England. Pretty much every race has neutral wheel support in the pits (even disc wheels from one service).

But as was said above - you run with your bike or it doesn't count.

I'm not sure you woukd have made the time cut either.....

I didn't think about a time cut off how does that work? I'm not aware of one at our races but I know there are cutoffs at the World Cup level. I think Jeremy Powers was pulled from a race which is crazy because he's the USA Champ and not exactly a slouch in Europe.

The officials here don't give you forever to complete the last lap. They know who the last racer is and would give you the time to complete a lap but they don't wait forever as there is usually another race they have to get ready for. At that point you would be a DNF anyways.

The USA Cycling rulebook says they can pull you out at their discretion once you've been lapped so they could apply that rule if you are already running with one lap to go as I would guess you would be a lap down by the time you got to the line.

Today I did part of the battle loop (the under water part) on my road bike. There were a couple of dudes on cross bikes out there, but they had no answer to my 55T chainring. Seemed a bit odd that I could drop them, this is their season and my time to be fat and out of shape...

I raced in Independence Cross (previously Beacon Cross) in south Jersey last weekend. A very fast and dry course mostly through the woods with two sets of barriers and two run ups - one being 50-100 yards of a horseshoe in deep sand around a structure and up a set of stairs, the other being maybe 30 feet of run up 8 giant "stairs". Both pretty brutal.

As usual I was lined up on the back row, but for the first time I had the guts to sprint and try to make it higher in the pack off the start, instead of taking it easy and then passing as many as possible on the dirt. It was great, if a bit scary - I think I was in the top half, or near it.

And then I found out that a big chunk of the the smaller, fitter and more experienced field was just going to have a fatter, slower, older guy to pass. I overtook one rider who I think had an injury or mechanical, and otherwise only lost places, ending up in 37th. Still awesome either way.

World Championships

Anyone planning on going to Louisville for this event?
I am a roadie who knew of cyclocross for years but just recently got acquainted with it locally. I like the "all are welcome" vibe and have been attending the local events. Got so enthused, started attending local events and convinced my wife we should attend the Worlds.
Gonna probably go to the Masters for at least a day, since that is my CAT, but am really excited that the Worlds is gong to be in the US. Anyone else going?

I got my cross bike in. Took it out to the track where I have watched them race for a month. Pretty sweet. No one watched me eat it in the sand pit. Hope to get a few races in before the season closes in North Texas. Still need to work on the hopping off and back on, engaging pedal (eggbeaters). Lots of high heart rate fun.

sworcester;

If I were you I would quickly switch to the smaller disc (matching the rear wheel setup) for the front wheel and remove the caliper spacer (so it fits). This is the setup that all the pros on the Cannondale pb Cyclocrossworld.com team are using as well as most of the local guys up here. If I end up owning the demo bike I am currently riding (still waiting for my warranty frame to arrive) that is the plan for me.

The bikes as delivered have too much stopping power up front for most folks.

Sweet rig. Enjoy the ride

Must not have fully bedded the brakes, 'cause so far it doesn't stop worth a sh*t.

I went back to the shop today and he adjusted the back brakes and they drag, like spin the wheel and it goes about 1 revolution. Is that right? Need to find instructions on adjusting it. Having fun though. I am sure the local town folks are going to wonder why this guy keeps riding on the grass adjacent to the sidewalk.
