Here are a couple from a nice low key, cold but lovely ride through the Boyce, Millwood, Rockland, and Guard Hill areas of Warren and Clarke County, VA, starting 'n finishing from Main Street in Front Royal.

Choncho Squirrel. Saw this and said 'Go ahead, fellas, I'll catch up.' Swooped around and took the picture.

Mass, that's a cool Colnago, very seasonal!

Today I took the binoculars with me and had some fun. There was a pretty heavy smudge on the binocular lens I was shooting through, which I didn't realize til I got home. It mars the pics a little bit, but I'm still really happy with these shots.
Shooting without a tripod and holding the camera and the nocs and trying to line everything up and remain stable is certainly a challenge! Maybe I should just go ahead and get a real camera with an awesome optical zoom lens soon...

Amazing photos. I’ve only ever ridden in/around Skyline in May. Most of my fall riding is in MD or central PA - so I’ll have to remedy that sometime soon. Those views out to Massanutten are fabulous.

Cool pics with the bino's and good job! I remember when we first moved to Elkton and Massanutten caught on fire. My brother was 15 and was allowed to volunteer to fight the fire. He pulled some long hours up there in the fight. That was a lifetime ago, sometime in the late 70's.

Fifth anniversary ride for the Émonda from October 25th

Final bike ride of my Southern Coast of France trip. I knocked off some real Bucket List rides.

I think the Col de La Madone was my favorite. Sainte Agnes is DEFINITELY worth a visit. The “highest historic coastal village in Europe.” (I’m not sure how one defines that) We met some shopkeepers who own a ceramic studio and live above it. The owner has was born in the house, which was built in the 1600s. Oddly, even as my buddy and I were visiting a really small village nestled in the Maritime Alps, their son lived in …. the Bay Area. (Kentfield to be exact). My home base.

Yes, it’s a small world.

One other quick thought: in my cycling journeys so far, the “cols” themselves seem to be the least scenic aspect of the ride. They’re often locked in by the surroundings with limited views. It’s the ride up that offers the really stunning vantage points. But, again, that’s just a sampling from the rides around Nice.

I also can’t think of a better home base than Nice (or close by) for a cycling trip. So many rides right out the door, and just two hours and change North … the Alps.

Southern California weather is cooling a bit so riding's more pleasant in the San Gabriel mountains. Put together a loop plus spur route, the bulk of it on disused pavement closed to cars.

Top of May Canyon:



Near the start of Santa Clarita Truck Trail, where a big slide washed away the road last year:

JoshDad, that picture of you(?) riding up that canyon on that narrow road betwixt the big rocks, that's the kind of fairy tale scene riding I live for. Beautiful. Those are all amazing pictures, thank you.

James, I love your stories from your time here in the Shenandoah Valley, and your insight into the area's history. Thank you.

Here's one from the Cow River this morning. Because it was MOOOOOOOdy.
You can see the Lonely Tree of Skyline Drive slightly left of center, as the mountain dips and becomes obscured by the fog.
Meaningless unless you know what it is, cool if you do! (It's basically the arboreal Northstar of the area: No matter where you are, if you are north of Skyline Drive from even a **great** distance away, you can almost always find that tree on the horizon and follow it to the National Park!)
