My birthday (70th) ride in Western PA. We rode 70km (a little over 43 miles). Beautiful Western PA fall colors. We used to ride our age in miles, but we switched to kilometers a few years ago for obvious reasons.

I like in Bucks County Pa on the Delaware River/Border of NJ.
Been riding about 100 miles a week as time has afforded me the ability to do so for a bit. Along the river on both sides is miles and miles of canal paths which are my playgrounds. We're pretty much in peak leaf season now. Today I took the rehabbed $25 Nashbar 'Xploder Oh yeah, we're in a pretty bad draught too i think. Pretty dusty out there.

A very generous friend foot the bill for a cycling reunion get together in the Mediterranean Alps. Crossed off a bunch of Bucket List rides. (My personal favorite was the ride up to the Madone D’Utelle) If you like riding with a variety of scenery (sea, mountains, villages), you’d be hard pressed to find better riding anywhere. It was pure bliss.
Favorite village: Valbonne (where my friend lives) Least favorite town: Modern section of Cannes. Kind of like Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. Some people like all the glitz and glamor. Not my scene. In order (probably) 1) Rooftop view from Old Cannes 2-7) Ride from Menton along French/Italian Riviera to ancient walled city of Dolceacqua 8-12) Gourdon to Grasse loop. (Gourdon is the village with epic viewpoints. Grasse is the “perfumed village” of France.) 13-16) Ride to Madone D’Utelle.

Went out on a ride I used to do a lot when I had a gravel bike setup pretty well, although it would always be variable whether a gravel bike or a mountain bike was called for. I rode my Farley this morning because my Space Horse doesn't have tires for this right now. The fat bike kind of felt like a slog. Could have left the fork locked the whole way if I wanted to and never used the dropper.
In any case I went through the Minuteman National Park (Paul Revere's ride), only the 2nd time this year, and they are doing this massive construction project with heavy equipment and excavation contractors... they have had portions closed on an off all year and it's very hard to tell what is going to be closed and they don't put up detour signs in a clear way. I was basically good and didn't go through the active construction areas today, and there were a handful of people working. I am so skeptical of this project.. they are re-routing the road, who knows if it is historically correct or not, it is arguably better in some ways for walkers/cyclists because it avoids a section you had to ride sidewalk. But the overall construction of the trail looks like it is doomed to be money down the drain.. they are basically doubling down on sand trail and for the most part they kept the same exact lines that are vulnerable to being washed out. At least one of these pictures is in a place that has been shown to be capable of being completely destroyed in one night. No water bars, no drain pipes, etc.. just this mesh and then they widened it more and removed more stabilizing vegetation. I think there is no way sand was trucked in 250 years ago when the events went down and yet I bet the original colonial road was more like a hiking/MTB trail and was probably more resilient just because no one would have kept repairing it by hand in a way that would keep getting easily destroyed. In any case until we get a big storm you could ride it on a road bike with 25c tires easily once they open it. If they can even finish it before the first big storm damages one of their new sections. They even removed one of the only water bars in the entire place! Last picture just shows how easy tiny 1x 12-speed cogs seem to clog with leaves in the fall here. I am having to clean it out with a 1.5mm wrench every ride or the chain skips, and this bike is geared so low I spend a lot of time in the tiny cogs. I can totally see how a setup like this could clog up on a big long gravel race. Last edited by benb; 10-25-2024 at 10:57 AM.

I miss the fall colors thread from last year. These are all from my ride on Skyline Drive (VA) yesterday, which I cut short in order to hit the river a little later. Gotta use the water while it's there -- we seem to have droughts more often than not here in Front Royal.
