13 miles inland from Ocean Beach where we stay I found some dirt finally outside San Diego! The temp went up nearly 30 degrees from the coast, starting at 65, cool and completely socked in with fog then brilliant sunshine and like I’m back in Az..
One mile out the sky opened up…it’s been foggy the last 3 days all day along the coast:

I rode with my slightly-famous friend, also named Mike today. He is the bassist for the recently slightly-reformed-but-still-a-group-of-vile-miscreants, the Daycare Swindlers. Could you believe he wasn't even posing for this picture? Seriously. What a poser!

Surprising amount of cyclists for a cool weekday morning too; at least a dozen, and I was only out there for a 10 mile out and back ride.

I'll post some more photos later, but I had a great couple weeks in the old country recently. The riding in Italy is A+

This morning I finally decided to get the Softride out again. Have been hesitant to use this with the still bum knee. This bike needs rewards a smooth cadence and I seem to have a permanent gimp in my stroke for the most part now. But things actually went ok. First time out on this with these old "aero" wheels. Not what I normally ride it with. Anyway, while I did open this up for some parts of the ride I mainly was just enjoying the time out.
Today's bike. I'll be the first to say there's not much to appreciate in terms of looks. But man is it fast and so freaking smooth if your cadence is smooth. I had 700 x 23c tires on it at 90/100 psi today and it just glided along the road. I was having fun purposely hitting the cracks and holes I normally avoid by instinct on my rides. You just don't feel them on this. I guess that joke is only even slightly maybe kinda potentially funny if you are starting your ride from the corner of Main Street in Front Royal, VA on the second Saturday in October. That's when the annual Main Street Festival of Leaves happens. Fine, so here's a more universal piece of humor: Why couldn't the astronaut book a hotel on the moon? Because it was full. Jolly good ride around the disappointingly 'mowed' (read: hacked, or mangled) farmland fields of the Shenandoah piedmont (what a stupid bourgie pretentious word, 'piedmont') this morning with a couple of friends and Simon Thrush. Back out on the Softride today. Swapped on some Chris King/Belgium wheels this morning. Installed a brand new set of 700 x 24 Turbo Cottons on them. Just like yesterday I got this up over 28 mph easy enough.
No camera today but I grabbed a couple of shots with my old cellphone.
