A short 20 mile ride w/ my wife on a sunny, early-fall day in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I am keeping my miles low until I see a cardiologist next month to deal with the supra-ventricular tachycardia (SVT) which usually only happens on difficult bike rides.

Last Saturday I rode the 70 mile route of the Hop Head 100. The day started out terribly, with numb fingers and a flat within the 1st five miles. My nephew came out to test some camera gear, so I wound up with rare pictures of me on the bike as opposed to the usual pictures of just my bike. My circulation returned, the weather was perfect, and I made it the rest of the way without incident.

I did an art ride today
 Vineyard artist Elizabeth Whelan has a show in Edgartown at the Carnegie, so I rode over to see that, and also caught the new elephant sculptures at the Harborview Hotel. Then I rode back to the West Tisbury Grange Hall to view the retrospective show of well known, beloved artist Rez Williams, who died earlier this year. 33 miles on the faithful Bob Jackson

Moab last week
Rented e mountain bikes for the first day and rode slick rock. My first real mountain biking of any sort, and I was grateful for a little pedal assist.
  Day two was the Moab century. A great organized ride from Moab to dead horse canyon and back.     One of my ride buddies brought some compression legs and man it felt great.  Day three I decided to sleep in, skipped the ride, had brunch, and did some hiking at spider canyon trail, then finished the day with arches. Beautiful place and fun little town.

Short quick ride this morning since I had work and other stuff to get done. With the fall colors kicking in it seemed only fitting to take out the orange Miele Latina bike.
Hay fields are still fairly green for this late in the year.  Calm waters in the beginning.  Morning reflections  Fishing  Dairy barn at the edge of Huntsville  More color in Huntsville  Today's bike of choice  Ogden Canyon  Water skiing past one of the boat ramps  More water play, quite a few folks out early on the Huntsville side

Check that off the To Do list, add it to the To Do Again list. 100 miles and 6000 feet of climbing on this adorable plump little Soma Rufus, full name Rufus Choncho Naomi Watanabe Watsunami.
It was a wonderful countryside ramble with a couple of friends, with a nice refill stop at my great great grandfather’s store, which he had to abandon when he fled his home during the war. I returned today to claim the property as my birthright, or, failing that, to claim a grape soda, a bottle of water, and a fancy pistachio granola bar for $8.37. 6 waking hours rarely pass with more haste or pleasantness. It was a wonderful ride. PS: Almost all of the above is true. Köningsberg to Blomberg, Bavaria
Beautiful 27 mile, 3000 ft ride on a friend’s e-mtb which meant no one waited.
The day before rain prevented riding to the Octoberfest. I had a “radler” meaning cyclist, half lemonade & beer, tasted great. (I can’t figure out how to put text between pictures using “manage attachments” feature

Today's ride was split into two sections. The first half was up in the mountains riding some of the few gravel roads up there. Rain showers came and went a few times while up there so lighting was tricky for picture taking sometimes. Then I went back down to the valley floor and then road into one of the quiet, less developed areas left in the valley. The bike of choice today was my old Lemond Poprad.
Color is kicking in up high, should be better next weekend  Rain showers getting me when I shot this one. I'm heading to the road below peeking out of the foliage  Roads were loose and dusty despite the showers  This gives you a feel for how high above the valley floor this area is.  Some areas have sections of pavement also.  The bike of choice and my only drop bar bike with disc brakes  Old barn and corn crib  Another barn  Matching shed by the barn above  Heading back out of the remote area

Had a great ride in upstate NY on Saturday morning. I rode out of Albany.. and when you're in the city limits of Albany the stroads are very much in effect and it sucks, but I had a pretty decent route planned out by using heatmaps to get out of there.
Ran into a rider who seemed to be on a rather "sus" diet to improve W/kg. I was barely geared low enough for the worst section of the 5 mile climb to the overlook I took pictures at. Or alternatively I need to be 5lbs lighter. No walking but I had to pedal down into the 70 rpm range and had to go well over my LT for a little bit. Last edited by benb; 09-30-2024 at 09:40 AM.
