Streets of Melbourne, Yarra Trail
Got dropped off by the extended family and rode back to the house after spending the morning with them at Queen Victoria Market and the Botanical Gardens downtown. Went through the streets of downtown Melbourne, saw some tourist/historical landmarks etc along the way, crossed a couple of bridges over the Yarra river, before finally getting on the Yarra Trail that took me all the way home, had fun exploring, my preferrred way of sightseeing, love it!

Ghent, NY. (Columbia County) The Farm Store, where I work part time, has an excellent hot bar if you're ever in the area and looking to stop for a bite to eat. Tables outside under a covered pavilion. SPP |

The Soma is a Double Cross Canti from around 2012. It's been a solid all-arounder for my riding/life partner. I'll see if I can grab a better photo, but in the meantime, here's Jess at the top of this punchy, brick-paved climb.

New bike day for me! This bike is actually a Mongoose from the late 80's, 1987 (just like me), I think. When they started making road bikes, they wanted something that sounded more Euro-exotic than 'Mongoose', so they came up with the 'Mangusta' moniker. It's a really smooth riding aluminum frame that flexes with good vibrations in all the right ways when you put down the power. A joy to ride --I knew I loved how it looked when I got it, but wasn't expecting to love the ride so much, too! Ripped out a 21mph/50 miles ride on this, could've easily been 22 if Steve and I hadn't been feeling quite so chatty for the first hour. These bikes don't seem to fetch much of a premium, so if the insatiable bike taster sees one in good condition on the cheap, I highly recommend grabbing it. I think the one that I have is the mid-range model, the 3000, with the 5000 having better components at the higher end of the line --but what's on the 3000 is working flawlessly, no complaints, loving it.
Looking forward to taking it out again tomorrow (sorry Melee)! We need a closer-up shot of that seat cluster! Sweet bike and great color.

I am still loving my very belated sampling of peak carbon fiber rim brake bike!

Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail
Last day in Melbourne. In celebration of my "birthday", extended family gave me a free day to do whatever I want so I chose to ride the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail to and back, about 50 miles. I took the metro train from Boxhill to Lilydale, about 25 mins and started from there. The weather was perfect in the high 60s. The trail was simply beautiful, well maintained, support/water/facilities and smooth gravel all the way, highly recommend. I am thinking I will probably do this ride every time I visit Melbourne from now on. It was the perfect ride in every sense of the word, what a way to end my tour down under, next stop: Singapore.
