Country rollertown roads ramble with my pal John. This '87 human was having such a blast riding the '87 Bridgestone that I bet by the time the ride was over John was sick 'n tired of seeing me pat the top tube and say, 'Man, I am having such a great time riding this bike today.'
After riding past Locke's Store at least 50 times, maybe a hundred times, I finally stopped in. Glad I did, it's a gastronomic wonderland full of great food, coffee, and people (for the cannibals). Will be back for lunch one day very soon --man, what a gem!
PS: I had such a great time riding the Bridgestone today.
And no, I have no relation to the store, although I wish I did because The Locke Store is a *wonderful* place, full of the aforementioned good people and snacks. But hey, I've got a bike shop, I can't complain...usually.

Been riding slower and social-er lately and really enjoying it.

Looks like that B'stone is a 550? I had a 500 as my first "true " road bike. Two-tone gray, Suntour Cyclone II DT shifters/derailleurs/brakes, and 27" wheels. 52/42 chain rings IIRC & 14-26 or 14-28 freewheel (no cassette).
Hands down the most comfortable riding bike I owned; perfect for longer tours. Some days I really wish I hadn't let it go...

Michael, great post as usual. Thanks for all of those!

My wife and I used to do a metric century on every weekend with good weather from spring to fall and every one of our routes had Locke store as a midpoint rest stop. That was well before I turned 72, her 67, and we had the memorable and intimate relationship with COVID. I never took a pic of the store, but here are a few from our past near there:

Hmm, that one in particular is top-ranking but one morning I saw a series of different toys climbing sepulveda southbound so I was almost nonplussed.

I always enjoy both of your pictures from the area.

Southwest of there is the old family homestead. Now ran as the Shenadoah Germanic Heritage Museum in Mt Olive. I'm 10/11 generations down from George Hottel, the original owner of the place.

Was out cruising on the Guv'nor yesterday. Just and easy ride to Huntsville where I chilled for awhile by the lake and then back home. Had some issues with my biking P&S so had to break out my old cellphone for the pictures.
