I knew this was coming and was excited because it checked a lot of boxes for me. Then when it launched with “endurance geometry” I was worried, the stigma of how some older roubaix and synapses rode stuck in my mind.

I got to spin one around town yesterday and and after even a few minutes it’s obviously a road bike that takes bigger tires, feels very similar to the melee. I think I’ll get one soon

I got to see a Fray this morning. I went for a fitting and there was one on the floor that was like 90% built, it had no cranks on it for some reason.

I wasn't there to look at bikes so didn't ask anything about it, whether it was a customer's order or was just on the floor, etc..

It's a really good looking bike and the green color is very nice.

That's not unusual - when building up a bike with external cable routing, the crank is often one of the first components installed, but with internal cable routing, the crank is often one of the last components installed. The hoses and wires go through the BB shell, and can only be accessed internally when the crank and BB removed. So the cranks and BB are usually not installed until after the fork/handlebars/stem, the derailleurs, and the wheels/brakes are installed, to make sure the hose and wire lengths are correct.

Yah it is what it is, maybe it hadn't even been decided what crank to put on it what with all the various PMs and such.

Didn't really matter, I got to see it, it's a good looking bike.

Finally starting my Fray Build. I had to wait for the bar to be painted.

It's going to have Campy WRL and Fulcrum 57 wheels (yes not ENVE). I love ENVE parts and frames but not a fan of the non-hookless rims, I haven't owned any since the first ENVE clinchers with hooks.

I'm also a huge Cup and Cone Fan.

Impressive attention to detail. I'm not wired like that so enjoy reading the lengths people put into their builds. Maybe I'll get there one of these days.

Have you confirmed that the frame is Campy WRL compatible? Enve says no. Not sure, but I think it's due to battery placement.

That’s EPS. It was due to the connectors on the wires not being able to fit through the holes in the bars and the frame. Not an issue with WRL which is in wireless.

That being said - so far WRL is a PITA as the hoses are pretty well connected to the shifters so you have to build it opposite (feed from the headtube) than what ENVE suggests. Not impossible just a bit more difficult.

This has been the case for all Campagnolo disc brake groups (H11, Potenza, Ekar, Chorus, Record, Super Record, and now Super Record WRL). Makes you wonder why Campagnolo used a permanently connected banjo fitting at the shifter end, instead of a removable hose fitting like Shimano and SRAM. Maybe it is because they developed their disc brakes in conjunction with Magura - Magura primarily makes MTB brakes, where (at least until recently) hydraulic hoses are generally run externally, and running the hose from front to back makes no difference to running it from back to front.

I think they are removeable as you can replace the hoses - but they come with the banjo - I just didn’t want to get into the hassle of removing the banjo and then finding out that I wrecked a seal. I did that on Potenza Hydro when it came out - I removed the whole bleed screw wrecking the o-ring - it was cheaper/easier just to get Hope Calipers.

Yes, sorry, I meant that the banjo can't be removed from the hose - as you say, the banjo can be detached from the lever to replace the hose. Unfortunately, the banjo fitting is too large for it to go through a frame or a handlebar, requiring the hose to be routed in the reverse order to the way most frames/handlebars are normally routed.

Exactly - you explained it better than me. Even if I removed the banjo - no way that was fitting through anything. In the end it wasn't too painful and faster than a lot of internal routing I've had to do before - the storage door certainly makes things a lot easier.

Mine has been built up for a few weeks now. It was an excellent choice. Rides just like the Melee with the capability for more tire and fenders.
