First 20 mile ride since a few weeks ago - before the heat spell. It's our 44th anniversary today!

I guide domestic tours for Ciclismo Classico, and the last week of May they sent me to photograph their new tour in Portugal, which has apparently been declared the new "hot" destination in Europe. I had no guide duties and all I had to do was ride, shmooze the guests, and shoot photos of just about everything we saw. It was cool to do, but it was also a lot of hard work getting pics of people riding ,eating, smiling, food, hotels, attractions, etc. We started almost directly east of Lisbon, headed gradually southwest till we hit the coast, then went south to end at Sagres. Portugal in May reminded me of northern Cali in August. Grass was brown when we started, but flowers were still brilliant. Then things got browner as we headed south. The hotels were all top flight. Two of them were former monasteries and essentially castles. The bikes were nice–Officina Matteo carbon frames, Ultegra Di2, mid-range wheels. They also had Matteo drop bar ebikes. Overall, a nice trip and got paid. Schweet!

. . . for a 45-mile solo ride around the north end of Great Sacandaga Lake and a climb over Hadley Hill on my new to me Peg Responsorium, then back down to the waterline and back around the north end of the lake to my car. By the time I stopped to shoot pics along the way it took me most of the day. But hey, fantastic weather, deserted roads on a weekday, and some fine scenery, so I took my time and ended up having a great time. The day even included a sighting of the near mythical Hadley Hill Cyclistas! I thought I was lucky to see them, then spotted this Cyclista cub momentarily off in the trees! . . . 27 miles in Amish Country with HilltopperNY, starting at Erie Canal Lock 15 in Fort Plain. After a gentle climb into the uplands on Rt. 80, we meandered across country, enjoying the cool morning air and the gently rolling hills among the corn and soybean fields. We even encountered Mrs. Hilltopper, who was in route to a friend’s house with their new puppy. Cool! Post-ride it was hot pizza slices at NY Pizza in town. A great way to end before heading back home. (Photos with Panasonic Lumix ZS200D and iPhone 15 Pro.)
