The "heat dome" is real. Even the deer are cooling off in the river. I did ride today, going very easy, only sticking to roads in full shade, out in the sun would be brutal. Also, doubled up on rear lights to be better seen as drivers might not think someone might be riding in this heat.

Well I went from one of my newer rides (Colnago CT1) the day before to about my oldest ride. The 1976 Holdsworth Professional. Just some pics from the 32 mile cruise on it yesterday.

There might be better places to retire than central VA but I can't imagine a better place to ride ..

20 miles with my wife in the heat of mid-morning. It's supposed to hit 100 today. Yikes!

A little gravel:

But mostly paved:

Skipped breakfast at home in order to get out and finish early before the heat became unbearable. Treated myself to a hearty breakfast at Gronsky's Milk House in High Bridge, definitely not good for the heart; the bacon is griddled into the one large pancake The bike is my Jamie Swan.

Beach Cities

Palos Verdes ocean views are particularly nice in the summer. I believe this is the Valkyrie view.

Nice. I climbed OSM/PC on Wednesday and descended Gib in the clouds. So many patches on the road as well as new guardrails.

Annual solstice ride to catch the sunset from Mt. Wilson before descending Angeles Crest in the gloaming/dark.

Absolute roller coaster of a ride yesterday.

Started in terrible humidity and the temps rose to the mid/high 90's.

Crisis struck when my new hydroflask insulated bottles failed me in an unexpected way. I sucked all the liquid out of them, and the remainder was a solid chunk of ice inside, which refused to melt, leaving me with less than half the water I expected to have.

It was so hot, I knew I had to cut it short without any drinkable water left.

Shortly after taking a detour back to the car, the thunder came rolling in fast and hard. Lightening strikes were too close for comfort.

Temp dropped well over 20 degrees in about 10 minutes and I got absolutely drenched in a monsoon like t-storm.

Changed out of my bike clothes in a dirt parking lot, thankfully alone in a brutal downpour. I actually laughed hysterically once I got in the car.
What a day.
