Question

* real name, if you like: Bob
* where do you live? Elvisland USA - AKA Memphis.
* explanation of your handle: As an IT guy with good social skills, the joke was that, like the pilotfish, I could swim with the sharks (executives) and not get eaten.
* explanation of your avatar: The Ouroboros - symbol of eternal renewal. Or making the same mistakes endlessly, also a valid interpretation.
* age (general or specific) 60-ish going on 18
* occupation: Linux OS and networking / security specialist, coder and DB admin. Also full time cat-herder.
* favorite bike: 2019 Bottecchia Leggendaria
* what's in your stable? Said favorite above, 2 vintage Schwinn Paramounts, '72 Bottecchia Professional, '74 Bob Jackson, '74 Raleigh Int'l, 1994 Colnago Master, 2000 Vianelli, and a slew of others vintage and not-so-vintage. I love steel with titanium a close 2nd.
* how many miles ON THE ROAD on a road bike last year? Due to injuries and the general issues prevalent only around 900 last year, working hard on making up the deficit.
* picture of yourself or your ride? Yep. The old 'Straddling the Border' bit, poorly executed.
* make up and answer at least one additional question: Q: Why are you the way you are? A: I only wish I knew....
* what is the biggest lie you've ever told: I'm as pure as the driven snow, what lies? Wait, that may have been it.
* and, something fun: Flying into Carbondale, IL and camping by the plane to get up the next morning and watch the 2017 total solar eclipse. I'll never forget that one.

this is about 3 years old...

...from a nice local SF-SJ Bay Area ride.

Bike was perfect for a mix of pavement, gravel.

Current stable:
Surly Crosscheck (pea green)
Colnago Master-X-Light (mapei colors)
Cannondale Synapse
Santa Cruz 5010
Leader hardtail

First "real" bike:
mtb = 1993 Gary Fisher Hoo Koo E Koo
road = 1995-ish Specialized A1 Allez

(Len J! if you read this - long time since the RBR forums, eh?)

Intro

Hey Paceline, Figured it's time I introduce myself and get in the mix.

* real name: Chris

* where do you live? Brooklyn, NY

* explanation of your handle: It was my old velospace user id, figured i'd bring it back for another round.

* age: 38

* occupation: Sales @ Rapha NYC

* favorite bike: 1987 Cannondale SR500 mint green with red decals, I wish I still had her.

* what's in your stable? 2019 Specialized Diverge Comp Carbon, 2010 Surly Steamroller with a late 90's Kinesis Canti fork and a porteur rack.

* fastest speed on a road bike? 48mph on 38c tires. Felt like a motorcycle.

* how many miles ON THE ROAD on a road bike last year? ugh, like 2k? It was a soft year with lots of mechanical issues. Don't get my started on how much I dislike Specialized Futureshock.

* How did you find the paceline Forum?* Basically everyone I work with is active on here. Proximity I guess.

Glad to be here.

- Chris

A little bit about little old me

I'm cat which is short for Catherine

I live and work in Salem, MA (boss town!)

My nom de plume, lavistaa is Finnish for "pierce" or spear. Given to me by a Finnish exchange student/buddy waaaay back when because I was and am such a direct person which he said he really appreciated.

I'm going to have to upload an avatar- it'll be a Habanero logo because that's what I do nowadays- run Habanero.

I am in my late 50s going on 20. Perpetually not aware of my age

I spent decades in the military, then I used to own a defense firm, that kinda sucked after a while so now I'm "doing bikes" which is the best of the three by far.

My favorite bike is a Habanero Nuevo (OG one which I got from Sheldon Brown back in the day and is still my daily). It's old and young like me- reliable and trustworthy and trying my best to stay relevant and aware

T\I own two Habaneros- Nuevo and Gravel, a full squish 29er of my own design, a Spicer touring from way back in the day but still comfy and amazing, and the first bike I ever put together which wasn't a piece of crap- well it may be a piece of crap but it was my piece of crap so there (Schwinn Tempo II in white, red and rust fade)

My fastest speed is probably in the 60s (km, I use km) but likely quite a bit faster than that as I used to come down Sandia mountain access at full tilt back in the days before computers and measuring ourselves to the nth degree. I was even dumber and more foolhardy then so it was likely way faster than the speeds I freak out at now, having broken a lot of bones since then.

I don't really keep track of miles or speed much. I'm into it for the zen. I used to ride/train with people who competed with the military olympic team and discovered I more or less loved riding but was not into the racing scene.

There are a ton of pictures of me and mine at https://www.instagram.com/habanerocycles/

When I'm riding I think about nothing- it's calm, it's rhythmic and sensational. Also, I get really really thirsty (hail fellow hydro homies) so I think about water a lot also.

The biggest lie I've ever told someone is "Oh, yeah, I love this wedding/baby shower/funeral. (NB: I am not in love with these events)

I think like basically anything outdoors is fun.

I love forums, I love bikes so .....

Hello all!

Hi all, I'm new here so thought I'd introduce myself. Looking forward to meeting folks and integrating with the community.

- My real name is Brenden

- I live in Boerum Hill Brooklyn, NYC

- My handle is because I always loved the supertuck. Balancing danger and speed, pushing limits... It's exciting.

- I love metal bikes and metal music, hence my profile pic.

- I'm 41

- I'm a video editor and colorist.

- My favorite bike is my Phil Wood branded Sycip made SS MTB

- I have a bunch of fun bikes! My other faves are a taxi yellow Gunnar Roadie with Force 1x11, an old Karate Monkey turned drop bar 27.5+ trail crusher, and a Specialized AWOL for the inbetween stuff.

- I'm not sure the fastest speed or total mileage ridden, but I ride a lot and have fun doing it. I feel fast!

- I wrench as much as I ride, so I attached a pic of me doing that.

- I think the bicycle is the perfect machine. It can help me escape from the world, or integrate with it more harmoniously. I want to know how every piece of it works. It's fun to go fast, and equally as much going slow... it's one of the few things that truly makes the world a better place.

- I don't lie a lot, but the biggest cycling one I've told was probably to get my first job as a mechanic in my early 20's. I told the shop I had experience when I didn't, and then once I got the job, had to learn everything in real time.

- Something fun is getting upstate to ride MTB & gravel!

- I found the paceline forum by chance looking for Serotta info. If you think you know me in real life get in touch!
