Just a remainder that the stock market is not the economy.

The Fed's apparent fealty to the current "POTUS" is alarming.

"signaling" a rate cut is not the same as a rate cut....

This causes chaos / unexpected events that distract people (and media/journalists) by giving them something else to focus on, other than problems at the border with CBP, astute observations by the former British ambassador, and connections to Jeffrey "I have not talked to him in 15 years" Epstein.

Business as usual.....

Would you please explain what you mean here. You keep saying this and it's actually annoying in what has generally been quite an interesting adult conversation.

Yes, but the Bond Market will be expecting a rate cut from today's signal of a rate cut, and the Fed is not in the business of disappointing the Market, so there will be a rate cut.

Catch-22

Why is this annoying? When the market drops, as it did last December, Powell was there to reverse the expected rate increase, and the market recovered and hit new highs. A couple of months ago, when the market stumbled due to the Trade War, Powell said the that the central bank is prepared to act to sustain the economic expansion should fallout from President Trump’s trade actions on China and Mexico threaten the United States economy, and the Dow rallied almost 1,000 points in 4 days. Now there is talk of a possible global recession, so Powell signals a rate cut — and the S&P hits a record of 3,000.

The Fed has shown us that they are there to support the market.

If you disagree, please explain.

The Fed is not obligated to support the market.

The Fed has two statutory mandates : maximize employment and stabilize prices.

The market is not the economy, it’s a toy that don used to plump his ego.
If I were Powell, I vote with my feet. To be dictated to by one who is ignorant of ‘economics’ is a travesty.

A gentle reminder that your money has never been worth more and there is no excuse to blame any politician for your actions here on forward for your personal choices you make around the stock market.

Please make any adjustments based on your current and future needs and try to ignore the keyboard warriors here trying to sway you into being scared or reading the news with their biased input.

Sincerely,

the rest of PL (who can think about the stock market without making it political)

Has the feel of a melt up. Your cautious side is telling you to get out but your greedy side is looking at a period of crazy gains. How long do you dare stay in?
