Thanks, Josh! Your encouragement encourages me to take the time to write about my rides. I'm grateful for that, because I'm usually no good at sticking to journal writing, but it really helps to distinguish each ride from the others, which I value.

This morning was moderately cold (mid-30's) and once again extremely windy. It was one of those mornings where if you just went outside to wheel out the trash you'd shiver and rush back in and brew up some tea, but if you were decently dressed and on a bike it felt absolutely *perfect*. There were a couple of magical sections where the wind was straight at my back, blustering away at a constant 15-20 mph, and it felt like having a throttle on my bike. No pedaling required, rolling and even sometimes accelerating up and down some small hills. Met up with some friends and did most of the ride together, which is always nice. On the way back? Those beautiful blue skies you see above turned ominous gray, and I saw a snowflake.
Oh good, I thought, I'll be able to go home and tell Sarah I counted three snowflakes!
Two minutes later, it was like the angels were having a dandruff convention.
Made it home safe. Sarah had hot coffee waiting.

Putting energy into this Ritchey feels like squeezing a super firm ball of putty in your hand --solid, but with the most indescribably satisfying sliiiight amount of give. You can sort of simulate this sensation by putting your lower lip over your upper lip and slowly pushing a finger into the front of your chin. It's like that, but much firmer. (You're welcome.)

My favorite rides these days include going up the backside of GMR then down, making a loop so you see the reservoirs from both sides. There a bit of snow (not enough)on Mt Baldy. Temps from the high 40s to low 60s here.

Yummy, those are incredible. I'd love to visit Montana --looks like such a beautiful state.

Here's one from today's ride. It was a peaceful, warm-feeling day in the low 30's. I think winter, despite the preponderance of storms, is the most peaceful feeling time of year to be outdoors. We got a small snow --insignificant for most of the country, but in Virginia they make a big deal about an inch. I thought this was a lovely scene: The farmer cleared a small patch in his field so his sheep could graze, and I liked the contrasting reds and whites. Oy, just such a nice day for a ride in such a nice world for a ride!

Rode hard out to my friend's neighborhood, we rode together in blah-blah-blah mode for an hour and a half, then I rode hard all the way home.
Very happy to feel my mojo starting to come back after 6 weeks off the bike due to a collarbone injury and then a Covid/Strep combo. Just a week ago I was begging my way up the hills, "Please let me pass, I'll be nice, just let me climb you!", and now I'm getting back to that wonderful place where the roles have been reversed and it is me imposing my will on the hills and dictating the pace.
Gosh, that sounds so 'alpha', but that's how it feels to me when I ride up a mountain in good shape!
