Today’s ride in the San Gabriel Mtn reminded me why I love this place:
staring with a picture from San Gabriel Canyon road, then looking down from Shoemaker onto East Fork, the next is from the backside of GMR, and finally I believe the last picture is of same reservoir as in the first pic, but from the other side riding down GMR. A really scenic 40ish mile/4k loop. |

A cold weekend here. Started this morning at 27 degrees. But I love being outside.

Brushy Creek Park, Cedar Park
Wet and muggy, perfect day for my fat-tire cruiser bike.

We had a high of 37 yesterday, but the sun was shining, so I broke out some full length tights with a windblock Winter jersey and hit the road. My Duetti seemed to be the right bike for today's adventure as I had put a 44t chainring up front this week and hadn't been able to get it out yet.
I ended up hitting some gravel and hardpack roads along with some smooth and rough pavement along the way. The bike rides very nicely, but I will be trying a 10-33 cassette and Force RD and see if I can get along with a 44/33 climbing gear on the steeper/longer climbs. Pics of the C&O towpath and Potomac River as I left Georgetown for a solo overnighter. It rained during my departure and return but was dry in between. I
enjoyed a Thursday night campfire and quiet night in the tent before the Friday off for Veterans day. |

Gorgeous day here in Michigan. Hit my favorite local trails, Mosquito Creek. Got in 20 miles on my Pivot. Love this bike.

Not much to look at on my ride yesterday. I rode the eastern part of the county where it's all flat black dirt with fields of hundreds of acres. I'm still trying to reach the goal of riding every road in the county and with the 33 mostly gravel miles yesterday was able to cross another township off the list. Rode the Ross Signature that I got from Andrewlcox. In the background is the town of Cherry, site of the Cherry mine disaster which killed 259 men and boys in 1909. I presume that the mound is soil excavated for the coal mine. The mine closed in 1935.

Train stop
Decided to ride to a luncheon in Clinton, NJ, and ride home. Nice day in the 40s.
The Clinton Station Diner has the "8th Wonder" burger, 105 pounds! See photo. Probably a cycling forum isn't where you would find challengers Last edited by merckxman; 11-15-2023 at 07:32 PM. |
