Quiet NJ roads...

I'm hoping the heavy rains we got yesterday did not knock down a bunch of the foliage. Will be out exploring again tomorrow and next week in particular looks to be good weather.

Nick, way back about 33 years ago when we lived in rural, north-central PA, there was a lot of that chip-and-seal road repair every summer. One day descending a one-mile hill that was freshly done, I flatted both front and rear on those little sharp stone chips that stick to the tires. Nasty stuff for road bike tires.

Nice shaded neck rd near me was paved last year... super smooth. It was just chip n sealed a couple weeks ago! Guess the funds have to be spent regardless?

They actually milled 20+ miles of baby-tush-smooth Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park a few months ago, then striped it without paving. It's still smoother than lots of other paved roads out there, so still a sublime ride, but man...why?
Hopefully it's not permanent and they'll finish the job once the tourist season is over. But this has happened on other local roads, too.

Taken at the locally-famous White Post intersection in White Post, Clarke County, VA. There is a titular big white post in the center of the intersection, maybe 20 feet behind where I took this photo from, visible in the reflection in the window.

I recently sold my super dreamy super road bikes in expectation of another one whose arrival has been dramatically delayed, so this '92 Trek is my most road-centric bike at the moment. It's proving to be quite a capable and enjoyable pinch-hitter! If only that Ultegra 600 Tricolor rear derailleur could hold a gear lower than 28T, but I'm making do!

Unless your RD hanger is on the short side, that RD will happily shift a 30.

The gusts were brutal today, I was glad to be on old fashion alloy rims and at that it was dicey at certain moments. Still, a beautiful day.

Cloudy and windy yesterday, first day out that felt like winter was coming in. Out east of Paris to the start of the Champagne region. Lucked upon a local wine festival for the particular valley and had a very good time there, albeit hardly dressed correctly for the occasion.

A gift of a day in NJ/PA. Weather so good, it would be neglectful and shameful to work in the office all day. I do believe in NJ we broke a high temp record today. When I finished my ride, my car said 84F. It was indeed hot, and this is the end of Oct.
