This 40-mile route even included about 3 miles of well-maintained gravel that posed no challenge for our road bikes, but added to the scenery bounty as we rode beside the Boquet river east of Elizabethtown after stopping at Stewart’s in E-Town for some mid-ride snacking. Doug had to take off post-ride, but as I headed south, I stopped for dinner at the incredible Paradox Brewery in North Hudson and had the obligatory celebration beer. A great day! 30 hilly miles with my wife in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia:

My wife's titanium bike just after the ride sporting new thick "foamy" bartape from Velo Orange. It's great tape and on sale for something like $15.

The Alliance sporting new Campy carbon Athena crankarms which lets me to use my TA Campy compact 110/112 BCD rings without modifying anything.

From Heber, arizona “south Heber loop” mostly dirt road route. Beautiful wild flowers in meadows at elevations near 7000’ with pleasant temps in the 70s.

Three horses temporarily blocked my passage

A few very chunky sections, this was a 14 minute climb in the sun at times no clean line available for my 40mm tire;

With a pleasant paved car free five mile descent back to base:

Today's ride was about taking pictures while I tested out the changes to the old Raleigh Team USA. I've swapped out the 53/39 chainring for a 48/34 one, a larger SRAM cassette and chain, and then some different wheels with Gravelking SK 700 x 25 tires. Oh, and new pedals that matched the look better.

The bike:

How about some wood spokes?

Last Saturday, I rode the Heart of Virginia century ride. It was so much fun, beautiful weather for a long ride in the country.

It was a meaningful ride for me, as it's the first century I rode since I smashed my leg to bits a year ago. All the hard work of recovery and training paid off with my fastest century ever, averaging 20.9 mph! (Of course, a lot of that was due to me grabbing the fastest wheel I could find and being dragged for 70 miles.)

This picture popped up on Strava and I like it a lot so I thought I'd share it here. The jersey was a gift from my absurdly supportive partner. She likes me in flowers and encourages all my worst bicycle shopping excesses.

I’m not a climber, but I try to pretend. Rode to the end of the pavement on Three Creeks Lake Road. Most of the tourists are gone (phew). Beautiful day.
