refugio 2023

It was unsettlingly idyllic before sunday's storm. I was surprised and thankful to wake up dry, expecting a late night shower over south santa barbara county.

redir, Is that Smuggler's notch? My wife and I lived and got married (1980) in Burlington, VT - she grew up there. We have been living in the northern Shenandoah Valley for 31 years now and haven't been back to VT for probably 40 years or more. We are in Winchester. Where are you in the mountains of VA? Dave

Beautiful scene... I had to Google 'swamp maple' (Pacific Northwest resident here)...

Mt. Greylock

I went back to Williamstown (MA) - still tweaking the route on the NY side - much better, but there was about a mile of unpaved road that didn't show up when I planned it. Maybe look into the west side of 22. Over 100 vertical feet per mile though.

Got my new to me Tarmac SL7 Pro out to the coast last weekend. Weather conditions were near ideal, with a little bit of a push on the way out and not too much of a head wind on the way back.

Sparky33 hooked me up with a terrific loop west of Rt 128 (now I-95) today, 55 miles. Some trail closures and road re-paving made detours here and there but just a beautiful loop with quiet roads and excellent pavement. Lots of woods, marshes, colonial houses. 70F and dry, couldn't be better.

Trying to channel Hummus Aquinas so I show my lunch in the second photo

It is indeed Smugglers Notch. As far as riding goes VT is remarkably similar to VA. I am in Blacksburg.
