Why aren't all commercial/industrial buildings loaded with panels, it would ease the (least around here) clear cutting of green space. Great for what you did however!

Probably because the commercial rate on electricity is so low that it's not worth the investment.

As someone who sees a lot of buildings from above, I can tell you that more and more do indeed have solar panels.

I am currently looking at a Subaur Crosstrek - plug-in hybrid. However, this is the last year of production. So, my question is - would you purchase a car knowing that it will no long be made?

Why not? They’ll support it for years.

Argument can be made last model year has the most bugs weeded out of it....

Anybody have any opinion/insight on the 2023 Hyundai IONIQ 5? Fast charging! The dealer right across the street from me has 6 cars on the lot. Boring colors of course. $2000 rebate! Something like this I think would work for 95.99995% of my annual driving.

Not to dis their product, because it gets good reviews, but this fast sustained charge rate isn’t crucial for most driving. It is if you do a lot of road tripping. But if you do that it’s hard to recommend this brand (or any other not from…. You know who…) because of the current state of unreliable DC fast charging of CCS-standard vehicles, which includes all Hyundai EVs. I understand their vehicles are perfectly fine. It’s the chargers in the wild that are hard to trust, as of this typing.

If most of your charging is at home, this super fast charge rate isn’t important.

The announcement that Walmart is getting into the charging business is actually pretty big news. Let’s see where that goes. They’re a behemoth with the resources to do it right. Hopefully they do.

My brother-in-law has an Ioniq 5 and loves it. He charges at home just as we do but his utility gives super low rates for off-peak charging and this bring the cost per mile way, way down.

Fast charging not at home, so you know. Level 3 DC fast will be @ commercial stations.

Level 2 @ home, your local utility may have rebate on the charging system too.

Max level 2 rate is 7.4kWh. [googling] So a 32a unit on a 40a 220v breaker will do that rate. This is what we use for Bolt and PHEV Pacifica.

So 2 hours, 15kWh added, 4hr=30, 5hr-45. last charging input slows rate when nearer to full on ours, should be same with IQ5.

Bigger optional battery those have 77.4kWh capacity, standard 58kWh. But may be a few cfg depending if one motor or two 2WD VS AWD. etc.

I'd like that...but he lives in Minneapolis and I have 1000 west of there. Someday we'll make it happen.

One thing that Tesla does well is support home charging. I don’t know about other EV mfrs, but Tesla offers like 6 or 7 different NEMA adapters which plug right into the mobile connector cable. I bought the 10-30 adapter for my 220v dryer plug and my car charges at a max of 24A or about 24 miles/hour.

The adapters are sold separately for like $35-45 each or you can buy a bundle of 6 for $245. I didn’t know about the bundle when I purchased my adapter but if you travel it can come in handy! Of course, YMMV! Good Luck!

In large part because the local power generating company doesn't like to see their profit$ go down with 'self-generated' electricity. Lots of $ being thrown into many politician's pockets to maintain the election grid 'status-quo'.
