The road is closed past the snow gate until late July so traffic isn’t too bad. (FS is grading the gravel section.) The “road closed” sign at the start of the climb is so small that there are still drivers slamming on the brakes when they arrive at the snow gate. Then again that happens even in the winter.
IN the past I have driven all the way up and done the descent 1st, rattling all y bones and teeth. Go into Sisters get a coffee/ espresso chill out and then do a ride around Sisters and do the climb back up. Was hoping the roeadwork was taking care of some of the issues with the pavement. Guess not.

from the other day. Fortunate to have access to this loop. Can do ~50 miles connecting some trail/gravel to a bike path that leads out to the beach with only ~7 of those miles on the road.

@the poster above: Oh geez, that looks scary.

Here are a couple from my ride this morning. I really like the ephemerally blue/green/purple aurora and starry night paint of this Revolt. Rides all right, too!

Let's not exaggerate, Weisan. It was only 92 at 10:30.

Did a good ride yesterday from Pine Lake. Not feeling too well today after riding in what tasted like an ashtray all day, but it felt good to get out! Just took a picture of the smoke from inside my truck before the ride. BBD has some better shots anyway!

Here's my stuff . . .

It was a marvelous, if a bit smokey, 50-mile ride yesterday from Pine Lake in the southern Adirondacks north and around Piseco Lake. I was supposed to be leading a Mohawk Hudson Cycling Club ride on this route today, but I couldn’t subject club members to “thunderstorm roulette” in the face of a 90% t-storm probability forecast. But I could go on my own and we lucked out with no rain until after we had finished riding. Rt 10 north from Pine Lake is wonderful, with wide clean shoulders, surprisingly little traffic for a holiday weekend, and gently rolling climbs and descents that made for an easy but fast pace. Throw in a scenic vista here and there and it’s a great route with a stop at one of the state campgrounds along the western shore of Piseco Lake for a water bottle refill and the required selfie on the beach. Hilltopper was riding his Steve Bingham Ti with Red eTap, Bora Wheels . . . SCHWEEEET! Bill was on his 1984 Schwinn Super Sport with platform pedals that he said is almost all original. The AQI was at 137, but we had no problems. I moved the club ride back to next Saturday and we'll start earlier to hopefully avoid any t-storms then.

BBD
