Technically, my journey down the rabbit hole of watches started in 1992 with an "automatic" Swatch. Then in 1994 it was my first Rolex, an Explorer II Polar 40mm 16570. The next one was not until 2010 when I bought a steel/gold Rolex DateJust for a significant birthday.

About 2015, my younger brother who also "collects" watches started getting into modded Seikos. I joined him by jumping in with both feet as you saw in my earlier post/picture. The issue for me is that I liked getting them "upgraded/modified" but then never really wore most of them. As such, they have sat in a watch box, getting wound every once in a while, and collecting dust. I also picked up the Oris ProPilot and Oris Aquis which are nice and get worn more often than all the Seikos and Citizens. Nothing wrong with Seiko or Citizen but I do have way too many diver style watches.

I realized that I do not enjoy "switching it up" as others do and tend to stick with about 4 watches in my rotation. This is why I am starting to sell off watches especially the new and never worn ones.

I have five watches that I love. I try to switch them up but I definitely get in grooves with specific watches for a few days or weeks in a row. Each different grove I get into is so nice. If watches are like jewelry, I cannot imagine what women go through😂

Same with bikes although I only have two bikes so my modes are more dominant in that case. If only multiple thousands of dollars worth of bikes could be stored in the bathroom drawer!!

One plus of bikes is that maintenance (although much more frequent than watches) is a lot easier for the average-Joe.

This is such a cool idea. I worked in the repurposed Waltham watch factory for a year. It's not worth traveling but if were in the area and are a watch fanatic there's a very small museum inside the factory.

In the mid-2000s it was rehabbed into office space. It's a very neat building. The museum is unlocked during business hours but IIRC you can't walk through the rest of the building without a security badge.

It'd be interesting to hear more about this. One person in my family still has a Waltham grandfather clock that works well.
