Sounds good! I have indeed jumped down the mountain bike rabbit hole, but was saying last night I need a good road or gravel ride as it has been a couple of weeks since my last gravel ride or even on a drop bar bike!

Got the Kirk out today to try out on the gauntlet up north to see how it fares as a gravel bike. It was pretty great aside from the deep sand in spots and the really chunky rock sections which was to be expected. Gotta love it![IMG]https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230526/

Farmer's Daughter Gravel Grinder, Chatham, NY

Last Sunday I got to shoot another incredible Farmer’s Daughter Gravel Grinder on the marvelous unpaved cycling paradise that is northern Columbia County in upstate New York. The area got a ton of rain overnight, so the dusty mess that I drove through on Thursday while scouting the route turned into a muddy mess that almost 1200 riders had to negotiate on their gravel, mountain, and other wide tired bikes. Moto driver Shaun made sure I could get where I wanted/needed to go quickly, and his driving skills made all the difference in getting there safely. I would not have been able to get most of these photos without his help! The 66-mile course with almost 6200 feet of climbing included three off-road single-track sections (I hiked into two of them to get photos) and the entire course is over 60% unpaved and includes some of the most beautiful springtime scenery you are likely to see anywhere, with brilliant newly grown green foliage and plenty of flowers, quaint country houses, and just general prettiness. There was also the much-anticipated shwag–beer cups, winter beanies, plus socks and optional event jerseys if you wanted to spring for one (I got one for free because I was the photog). Major sponsor Chatham Brewery was there with their trademark craft brew that the event is named after, and the folks from Bountiful Bread put on their usual incredible lunch spread at the rest stop at Hand Hollow Preserve. This event continues to grow and turn the Chatham area and its beautiful unpaved roads into a major gravel cycling attraction. I’m lucky to live near there and be able to ride there whenever I want without the crowds. (All photos shot with Nikon D850/17-35mm zoom and D500 with Nikkor 28-300mm zoom.)

I've been busy lately, so I've only had enough time for some short rides on the mountain bike.

i moved out to colorado (and i was done a month after i moved here), from Great Barrington a few years ago, and its impossible to explain what riding in New England/Hudson Valley/Catskills is like, because they don't believe me...

no matter where you point your bike... ALL DAY LONG...
