37 miles with my wife on a sunny spring day in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia:

The steel Alliance continues to impress with a super smooth and comfortable ride. These cows sure liked it!

Maine ramble.

Had lunch with my wife at the Sheepscott General Store in Whitefield then biked home to Brunswick. Beautiful back roads with tons of hills. Tried to use an unfamiliar dirt road that looked appealing on the map. Would have become a challenging hike-a-bike with road shoes so I backtracked.

Adirondacks-Padanarum Road . . .

Great solo dirt and paved road ride this past Friday into the (almost) middle of nowhere near Brant Lake, NY. I’ve ridden this route before but added a foray onto a forest trail for today’s expedition. The map said it was 1.2 miles from Padanarum Road into long pond, but I got scarcely a quarter mile before being blocked by a huge pond. It’s not on the map, so I can only guess it was all created by some very(!) industrious beavers. I sat for a while, enjoying the solitude, before going back down to the main route and continuing my ride. This route has lots of climbing in the 23 miles I rode–over 2300 feet. So, it took me a while before seeing all the sights and climbing all the hill back to my car. Finally, though, I ended up in Schroon Lake at Flanagan’s, a favorite for their wonderful ride recovery pizza! (All photos with me Panasonic Lumix ZS200 and iPhone 13 pro.)

Southern Adriondacks last Saturday . . .

This past Saturday I didn’t attend the Great north event in Cambridge, NY, but instead rode this beautiful 43-mile gravel route with some friends out of north Creek in the southern Adirondacks. It’s one of my favorite routes and includes lots of “un-pavement’ and some spectacular scenery as we rode in a big counter-clockwise loop that included a spur to view Garnet Lake, then some great views of the mountains and segments on Glen Creek and River Roads, with a quick stop to introduce my friends to the local swimming hole at it’s “secret” location. The weather was perfect–blue skies with some fluffy white clouds and temps up to the low 60’s, and the gravel was in great shape as we pedaled casually through forests that ae just now starting to leaf out as all the streams drain off the winter snows. (Photos with Panasonic Lumix ZS200 and iPhone 13 Pro.)
