Michaux State Forest
BB Dave
I love to ride Michaux State Forest. I am 30 mins from the Mt Holly side and a hour from the middle/southern end. That has to be some of the best gravel riding in my area. I sons back yard is Michaux State Forest and he rides all the sketchy Mt bike areas with a group of old heads. If anyone is looking for some of the best IMHO gravel on the east coast you owe it to your self to check out some of the routes around Michaux State Forest. |

I'd love to go back . . .
. . . in the fall. The only drawback I found was the lack of vista viewpoints at the tops of the climbs.

Tour of the Battenkill 2023
This past Saturday I shot the Tour of the Battenkill for the 13th time, but there’s always something new at the ToB, and this year was no different. It rained for almost the whole day, sometimes torrentially, and it was the worst weather I have ever seen at this classic event. I worked out of my car and was glad I was not on a moto, as I was able to keep a stack of towels nearby to dry off my equipment each time I got back in the car. It was great to see the dedication of the tour staff taking care of all the riders who DNF’d and those who just needed some mechanical help to keep going. But it was even more inspiring to see the good humor and motivation of so many riders who took it all in stride while getting soaking wet and muddy as temperatures hovered in the upper 40’s. It was also a thrill to meet former pro rider and three-time Paris-Roubaix and Tour of Flanders winner Johann Museeuw, who was at the event representing the Visit Flanders tourist agency. He was a super nice guy, posing for photos with anyone who asked and personally trying out the one-mile timed segment on steep Patterson Hill Road in West Hebron. Once all the times are gathered, the fastest rider up the hill will get a free cycling trip to Flanders courtesy of Trek Travel. The other local sponsor, Artisanal Brew Works of Saratoga Springs (@artisanalbrew) was also on hand to serve up free post-ride beer to the tired, thirsty riders. Personally, I could have used a nice hot cup of coffee! (All photos shot with Nikon D850 and D500 and lenses including 17-33mm and 28-300mm zooms with fill flash on many shots.)

I like my current location, but man do I miss riding in the Northeast when the conditions are right. Such beautiful backroads and dirt roads.

Been on the bike only a handful of times since the beginning of the pandemic. Currently trying to balance work, life and bike while surviving in the Bay Area.
Dropping the kid off at preschool then jamming to work. |

I also watched many mechanicals . . .
. . . so many of these people also still use TUBES in their tires!
