I couldn’t stomach another ride on the trainer this morning, so I convinced myself that 16 degrees was not too cold for a gravel ride. I lived in Chicago for 30 years and nothing compares to riding against a winter wind off the lake.

Got out again today, but crashed pretty hard towards the end and may have cracked a seatstay! Anybody know of a good carbon repair person in NYS?

Fun ride up to Bald summit this past weekend in Sonoma County, stopped by a cool waterfall along the way.

Yesterday a buddy and I took advantage of Highway 1 being closed to traffic at the elephant seal rookery north of San Simeon. Any time this happens, auto traffic becomes incredibly light and yesterday was no exception. We drove to Cambria, hopped on the bikes and rode north to the elephant rookery on a 65° day with no winds. It was an absolutely stunning day on a beautiful stretch of coastline.
On the way back, we rode up San Simeon Creek Road which if anyone ever has a chance to do, they should take it. The road winds up along a creek canyon, changes to dirt and traverses the mountains, eventually dropping into Lake Nacimiento. That was a ride for another day, but the first 10 miles in and out were glorious.

why was it closed? That has to be a top "winter" ride. The light is fantastic.

Numerous landslides have closed the road near Ragged Point. Although closures are very common each winter, after this last extensive set of rain storms there are quite a few areas that have mudslides/landslides blocking the road.

Started off cold enough that there was ice on metal fences in the shade, but warmed up quickly.
