I bought all three of them after reading Truck. They are in the queue along with the two Steinbeck novels that I haven't read.

Imperial Dreams by Tim Gallagher. A quest through the dangerous Sierra Madre in search of the Imperial Woodpecker which may or may not be extinct. Fascinating reading on both the bird and the region’s history and present day turmoil, and an eye opener to just how fragile some of earth’s habitats are.

Spying On The South (An Odyssey Across the American Divide) - Tony Horwitz.

Horwitz retraces Fred Olmsted's 1850 travels thru the south.

Peregrine! A story of a man observing a peregrine falcon. It is heavy metal nature meets pastoral nature.

Human Smoke. It is a collection of news headlines that precede WWII.

Sand County Almanac. A philosophical treatise on nature and the importance of our role in it. I know these types of books are becoming more popular as the planet and our environment changes but this is my favorite one. \

John Adams - David McCullough. The pulitzer prize winning book on John Adams, one of the important founders of our country and a true New Englander of the old set.

Noonday Demon by Andrew Solomon. I don't struggle with depression other than what is common, but it is everywhere around us.
One of the most rewardingly thought provoking books I've picked up on some time.

Speaking of reading...

Picked up a copy of City of Bones while traveling. I've never read any of the Bosch series and figured I would give one a go and compare to the series on Prime. I thought it was a good read that has some small, and some pretty big differences compared to the Prime series storylines. If you've read them you'll know, if you haven't I don't want to throw anything out there.

Bottom line I liked it enough to maybe try some others in the Bosch line.

Reading Sweetgrass now. Written by a Native American who is also a scientist, it is her melding of traditional values and perspectives of nature - how to live in harmony - and western science’s objective analysis, both good and bad.

Currently reading The Lost Gospel, the story of how the Gospel of Judas was discovered and then made its way from the markets of Cairo to the hands of collectors.

I just finished Lab Girl, by Hope Jahren. I would highly recommend it.

The book is a memoir about her foray into becoming a professional geochemist/geobotanist. She beautifully intertwines her life into anecdotes about experiments, the nature of plants, and her past. I'm not going to go too deep into a review, but I fully recommend it as a worthwhile use of time.

This sounds interesting. I read an Olmsted biography (Martin's Genius of Place ) and caught some of this story, so will check it out.

I just reread Proulx's The Shipping News and picked up pieces I hadn't even remembered. Love it.
