Back up into the mountains this morning. Today I took my purpose built climbing ride, an old Trek 5200 sporting a triple setup. Much easier going than yesterday. This mountain route has miles of an abandoned road that's great for bikes since there's no cars to deal with.

That road is the beginning of the part closed off to cars.

I always love your photos! My dad's family has roots up in that area--I have some faint memories of visiting Huntsville as a kid for family reunions. I'll have to find my way over there again, but with a bike this time!

Played hooky this morning for some alpine therapy. Worked like a charm.

The quakies are just starting to turn at the higher elevations, and the scrub oak is bright red all over the mountain. Wonderful time of year.

Staying in Asheville with an old friend. He rides an old Novara MTB that we just put a pair of GKs on to roll better. I shipped my Litespeed dropbar 26er via Bikeflights.
Yesterday we drove up to Craggy Gardens on the BRP and rode up to Mt. Mitchell, on a day with perfect weather. When we got back to the car, he drove home and I rode back to Asheville. I got over 6,100 ft of descent from Mt. Mitchell, as the BRP has some serious ups and downs. Total climbing was 4,000 ft, and 49 miles all together.
Pavement is excellent and traffic was light. We were lucky to be able to rail the 4-1/2 mile descent off Mitchell to the BRP with no cars. Vistas are spectacular. Just fabulous riding. I kind of wished I had the Firefly or Bingham, but it's not about the bike! Saw a fellow on an Eriksen, welded by Brad.

Grabbed a rainbow on Saturday before the effects of Ian, only rain, settled in until late yesterday. Today the cows were enjoying sunshine as much as I was.

I have read warmer temps are delaying the leaves changing. I'm thinking near end of October.
btw, the claimed world’s largest chile pepper farm is in Hunterdon County, in Stockton. Will have to check it out on a ride.
