Well after finishing the last 12 miles of yesterday's ride in the rain, this morning was clean and beautiful. Took out the Guv'nor for a lazy 27 miler, just enjoying the time out.

Hey Decama5: I moved to the DC area a few years ago and want to find some new rides further out from where I live. Where are you in the Shenandoah valley? Your rides look nice - would you have some ridewithgps links or similar? No gravel for me if possible.

Nick, my wife was born in Burlington, VT and grew up near Burlington. I think you were probably south of there. We were married in Burlington in 1980, and I worked at the Univ. of VT Medical Center in Burlington. Two of our (now adult) kids were born there. One of those kids now has a PhD in biology and she is on the University of Houston faculty. Our time there was a long time ago (like 40 years). You are so correct though in pointing out how beautiful parts of Vermont are - especially the countryside south of Burlington. Thanks for the post. Dave

Nice 31 miler today. My Moots on Muskegon Lake. Can't really see them but there had to be at least 60 swans in the distance just bobbing around on the water. Don't believe I've ever seen that many together at one time. Glorious day in west Michigan. Lots of folks using the bike path today.

More pics from this past weekend's VT outing . . .
This past Sunday was a great day for a gravel ride on the backroads around Wallingford VT with angryscientist, CNYrider, PAmtbrider and his MAmtb rider! We have been riding together once or twice a year for many years. CNYrider first had a gathering at his place near Cooperstown, NY in 2008 and we were riding gravel long, long before it became “cool!” For this weekend in Vermont he found us a great cabin and this Sunday ride was the final day of three rides. Unfortunately, I had some prior commitments so I could only join this on this single ride, but it was a great one! We did a big loop out of Wallingford, taking in some incredible views in the morning sun and a mile of backwoods hike-a-bike before ending our ride before the rain moved in later in the day. Vermont has gravel roads literally everywhere, most of them surfaced with the beautiful white gravel reminiscent of the Strada Bianche in Italy. We ended up doing only 22 miles, but covered enough beautiful scenery for a ride twice as long. Before coming home in the afternoon, I drove around a for a few hours and scouted out another route that I want to come back to do during foliage season. A great day! (Photos shot with my Panasonic Lumix ZS200 and my iPhone 13 Pro.)
Bikes are Angry’s Rock Lobster, MA Rider’s Kirk, PA’s Zanconato, CNY’s No.22, and my Lynskey ProGR.

At least those of us with 1x gearing never get the embarrassment of having our bikes photographed in the little ring!
