What type of bike should hard-core cyclists ride? What should they look like and how should they portray themselves in the "serious" pursuit of cycling? How can you achieve Strava KOMs while downing beers and burritos?

Your pics seem to answer those questions with a simple "are we having fun yet?"

If Grant Rivendell could keep his core principles and "lighten up Francis" these picture stories would be the result. Keep up the good work.

I led a ride to Deale MD today. Unlike many rides that go there, take a rest break and then pedal off, this one toured the back roads of Masons Beach and Deale Beach, 1920s style Bay-side cottage communities right on the water.

Just shy of a metric today on the Bingham. Humid! Lobsterville Beach and the Vanderhoop house, now the Aquinnah Cultural Center, at the Gay Head Cliffs.

Felt I had to speak to a gaggle of riders from the Charles River Wheelers riding up North Road with a couple of riders riding two across and preventing vehicles from passing on this narrow two lane road with no shoulder. There's no point in annoying drivers when there's no need to! People driving were courteous, they coulda been honking.

Hey man, we're just living! I don't think there's any conscious F U to anything/anyone but do I feel super out of touch with cycling these days. In spite of that, I think we've all been doing this for long enough to know what works for us and not be too affected by the cycling flavor of the week.

I couldn't agree more...love the pics, bikes and the music selection ;-). I've purposely looked back through this thread and study the bikes etc. to force myself to realize it's about getting out there on a bike. In my area everyone from the fit to the fat have to be lycra'd up and riding a go-fast bike....

decided to break out the fixie this morning

Today was just a recovery of sorts from the 70 miles I did yesterday on the Kirk Terraplane. I took out the old Peugeot I sorta finished up this morning for a little shakedown. And then I swung back home and hoped on a too small Bianchi I got for parts but then decided to refurbish.

The Peugeot has some nice cushy tubulars on it and gave me a great ride except for the boring performance of it's period correct, french drivtrain. Hard to get along with Sach Huret parts when you've been spoiled by Superbe.



The Bianchi is a work in progress but it rode so well under me on the road. The Superbe drivetrain was precise, silent and damn sexy to use. I just need to sort out the brakes and brake levers with new parts, cables, housings, etc.

Matching crocs to a bike- how to try without looking like you are trying.
All I can ever manage is to sometimes get one of my water bottles to match whatever bike I am riding.
