Very nice. I keep thinking of doing something similar with an old Ritchey Ultra that's right now alllocated to around-town errands. If I can find the right bits, I think it would make a fantastic bike to explore the vast network of Forest Service roads that littler most of our mountains...

Agree, but personally, I just use a clip on rear fender and have been fine... i don't commute by bike in bad weather... agree it would be nice, but honestly i wouldn't fender up anyways so doesn't matter that much for me...

Have had this one for a few weeks now. I love the longer wheelbase and relaxed head tube angle. Toe overlap is an issue on all of my bikes. Not so on this one. Alloy frame seems solid, but big tires/low pressure keep the ride comfy. Also, the 5800 group performs wonderfully. This aside from the 52/36 crankset, which is just not a great match for my (lack of) riding style. I have 46/36 in hand to swap. TRP HyRd brakes have a nice feel and good stopping power in my short, dry trial period so far.

Purchased from Suctionprints on here and rebuilt w/ SRAM 10s, Zipps, Ritchey. Can run 11-36 on the rear... bit of a frankenstein brakewise as the frame was not disc compatible, but at least having one up front helps with the steep hills here in Japan. Very stable geo.

with the fatter/wider tires, remember to play with the air pressure to find your sweet spot, mine is around 65 PSI with 35mm...if not, even the best tires or bikes will ride like crap.

Wow 80psi in 35mm tires? I only use about 55-65psi, I guess there are some big differences in 35mm tires. I use 80 or a little less in 28mm tires.

High-mount disc brake caliper doesn't need the brace between the stays when the mount is part of the dropout (like this), but using a hooded road-style dropout with a Willets mount (or any mount on the seatstays, for that matter) on thin-gage seatstays... You need to couple the seatstays to the chainstays or they'll eventually fail.
