I just started to re-read His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. HBO is doing a series with it which might turn out to be pretty good. It’s likely, or rather I’m hopeful, they can dive deeper into the meta-physical theme than the movie did.
As I come to the end, I’ve been milking it a bit...

Coming up I want to read either Gladwell’s Talking to Strangers, or something historical. Thankfully there’s loads of good ideas in this thread to consider.

Made a lot of people's reading list--I came to it cold, and really liked this--it is well-written and accessible...

Currently revisiting a friend from my childhood: Kon-Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl.
It’s the story of a Norwegian ethnographer who had a theory that people from the Pacific Islands were populated from tribes in South America. To test his theory he gathered a group of fellow Norwegians and a Swede and voyaged from Peru to the South Pacific islands on a balsa raft. The book covers the basis of his theory, the preparation for the voyage to include support from immediately post-World War II governments, diplomatic hurdles, and the voyage itself, with all its excitement, trials, and tribulations.
As a kid it was my favorite book, and it remains one of them now. I pick it up about every 3 to 5 years and have a good, comfortable read.
