I read "John Adams" by the same author, it was well written.

I just started to re-read His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman. HBO is doing a series with it which might turn out to be pretty good. It’s likely, or rather I’m hopeful, they can dive deeper into the meta-physical theme than the movie did.
As I come to the end, I’ve been milking it a bit... Coming up I want to read either Gladwell’s Talking to Strangers, or something historical. Thankfully there’s loads of good ideas in this thread to consider. |

Recently finished "Educated: A Memoir"--first person account of being raised in the boonies of Idaho in a Mormon/prepper family, and finally getting to University after being home-schooled...
Made a lot of people's reading list--I came to it cold, and really liked this--it is well-written and accessible... https://www.amazon.com/Educated-Memo...znbookrevie-20 |

I read this one awhile ago. It's pretty crazy and I am a Mormon raised in the heart of things. My jaw dropped several times.

I'm reading the profile of William Gibson in the New Yorker, and thinking I need to read the Sprawl and Bridge trilogies.

Currently revisiting a friend from my childhood: Kon-Tiki by Thor Heyerdahl.
It’s the story of a Norwegian ethnographer who had a theory that people from the Pacific Islands were populated from tribes in South America. To test his theory he gathered a group of fellow Norwegians and a Swede and voyaged from Peru to the South Pacific islands on a balsa raft. The book covers the basis of his theory, the preparation for the voyage to include support from immediately post-World War II governments, diplomatic hurdles, and the voyage itself, with all its excitement, trials, and tribulations. As a kid it was my favorite book, and it remains one of them now. I pick it up about every 3 to 5 years and have a good, comfortable read. |

The Trial by Franz Kafka
and on deck: The Lost Honour of Katherina Blum by Heinrich Böll. I'm rolling through an old German language top 10 list from college. We're visiting my wife's family in Chiemsee this summer and my German vocab stinks atm. The top 10 should ramp it up. |

Kon Tiki is an absolute favorite!
No Picnic on Mount Kenya is also really high up on the list! |
