Put a new cassette on the Roubaix and give it a spin down to downtown Petaluma. Rolled up the coffee shop and saw them shooting a scene for an upcoming Hallmark Christmas movie! It was kind of cool..
and me enjoying the Chai Latte..

Rigged up a tow line (from a retractable leash and some shock cord) so the 8-yo and I can get to some of the more technical single track where we live. She was pretty stoked

A little SRAMano juxtaposition...
And a pic from a local spot with much cooler bikes. Some Mongols were there, but I didn't ask which chain lube they preferred... Last edited by 54ny77; 06-12-2022 at 08:34 PM. |

Black Fly Challenge in the Adirondacks this past Saturday
They call it a “challenge” for a reason! Yesterday I rode the Black Fly Challenge up in the Adirondacks for the first time. This was the 25th anniversary of this event that covers a 38+-mile route in alternate directions each year from Indian Lake to Inlet, NY.
It was a picture-perfect day with skies dotted with fluffy clouds, temperatures in the low 70’s and only a slight breeze. The infamous black flies of the event name had also apparently taken a break. So great weather on a course that winds over mountains and through thick forest over unpaved roads that demand constant concentration to avoid hitting one of the “baby head” sized rocks that often lurk in the shaded shadows. My riding buddy Darryl and I passed several ambulances that were doing their work for riders whose attention may have wandered. This event plays host to almost 1,000 riders each year, with a big start in the host community (this year the small village of Inlet) and ends with a huge party at the other end–in Indian Lake this year. The small communities involved are very supportive of the event and the riders, with residents standing or sitting at the roadside, sometimes in the depths of the forest when you least expect them. It also attracted riders aged 9 to 79 this year, and some really fast racers riding mountain, gravel, or cyclocross bikes. At 3:26, I thought my time was pretty good considering the circumstances and my age-related state of fitness deterioriation(!), but this year’sWomen’s Champion Anne August posted a time of 2:00:36, and Men’s Champion Trevor August scorched the course in a blistering 1:48:12! All these photos were shot with either my Panazonic Lumix ZS-200 (most) or my iPhone 13 Pro (super wide-angle and video.)

Muskegon Lake. A bit breezy but a nice sunny day. Lots of sailboats, a huge freighter, AVP professional volleyball on Lake Michigan, and a cool restaurant with live music right on the beach.
