Before they got dusty…I was really excited to try the Vittoria Barzo 2.1” tires on some nearby trails. They did not disappoint! Excellent traction and fast rolling make them a really fun tire.

Yesterday we took a good size group up two climbs in Kern County, Cerro Noroeste (aka Mt. Abel) and Mt. Pinos. Gorgeous day, little to no traffic on the climbs, and amazingly scenic vistas. This is on the descent from Cerro Noroeste.

Just something I love about this sign, I feel the need for all of my bikes to have a pic with it!

I'm jealous! Those are two that I often looked at, but never did before leaving the area.

Those are two of my favorite climbs and it helps that we have a cabin smack dab between the two. I’m glad you’re able to get out and enjoy them. Looks like it was a fabulous day.

Pine Mountain Club/Lake of the Woods? Seems like a nice place to have a retreat.

As you likely know, these two climbs are relatively gentle, steady grades with very little traffic and gorgeous views. What makes the ride hard is the stretch to get from Mt. Abel to the base of Pinos. Going the opposite direction you think “oh, these rollers are pretty fast.” Coming back, you realize that “rollers” doesn’t do them justice — 1200’ of elevation in 4 miles, pitches exceeding 12% at times. It’s kind of brutal.

Yes, Pine Mountain Club, and yes the road that connects the base of both climbs is pretty serious. What’s even worse for me is that my cabin is at 6200’, and the connector road is at 4800’. It’s 1.2 miles to my house from the road, which makes for an incredible speedy descent and incredibly painful climb after going up one of those mountains, but boy do I love those climbs.

First time In over a decade that I’ve climbed Fox Hollow to sit on Bill’s bench. I love, and miss the road cycling in Lane County OR.
