Menemsha, Martha's Vineyard. Fishing, tourists, Coast Guard.
Second ride with the 700Cx25 wheels/tires, swapped out after starting with 650Bx38. 650s are cushier, but the skinny tires feel so sharp through corners. Loving this bike! |

Califon NJ train station
Now a small museum. The train started running to Califon in 1875. Though the Central Railroad of New Jersey built both a wooden freight station and passenger station, the citizenry of Califon replaced it at their own expense with this stone structure.

Hard to beat that area so long as it's not buried under snow or ice.

This looks primo.
How is the course? Any gnarly roads or more maintained dirt/gravel roads suitable for auto traffic? basically - the honda civic test?

Nay! But I have been there and it's great! Get rice plate and a lottery ticket heh. We went to Sandwich Express in Reseda; the best in the Valley! I had a tofu extra veg and a bunch of bud light. The grilled beef is excellent and the humble-sounding egg banh mi is surprisingly good.

The route was what I was looking for in an early-ish season gravel ride. Challenging climbs for sure but the surfaces were about evenly split between paved and non-paved. All but a rail-trail type section and a closed to traffic class 4 section would pass the Honda Civic test. A few patches of dirt road had fresh stone. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

There are a couple of roads on MV that are like roller coasters. I don't know if they evolve like this, or if some intentional human input helps. Definitely keeps the riffraff from cutting from one more major paved road to another! Fun on a bike, when the low points are full of water (which is most of the time!)
