Uh huh, my point is when people start injecting race into a conversation, especially one that starts as transgenders in competition things are going to get shut down fast.
I can see many sides of this issue, feelings, emotion, and science. Keep the conversation there....on topic William |

Some sports require more power/strength, while some require more endurance. Of the trans women who achieve elite results in sport, what is the break down of sports that are power based, vs. those that are endurance based.
If there is no power advantage associated with being a trans woman, then you'd expect the split to reflect the natural base rate of women's participation in sports. If you see there is an over-representation in power/strength sports, that raises the spectre that there may indeed be an advantage, and that the criteria for competition should be looked at more carefully.

Stories of transgender athletes winning various competitions are becoming more common, but I don't recall any where a transgender man (female > male) has beaten a group of biological males. Are there any noteworthy examples that I've missed?

You say, "biologically female" as if gender is binary. What about chromosomal hemaphrodism, or morphologic hemaphrodism? Are these not facts of existence? So then why are these women not facts of existence? They are women, not men. And they are athletes. The IOC definitions have already been posted here. So the governing bodies have already moved past feelings on the subject. It's not easy for me to figure out what to do here, either. As I said before, if Rachel McKinnon(Cat 1) and Jillian Bearden(Pro) can't agree, this must be a challenging topic. We live in a country that promises, "justice for all," including for transgender people. That's just where we live. Yelling no, no, no is not an answer to living with people that have been born with a different gender experience than yours or mine. And feeling strongly that they should suffer in silence, or just vanish is not responsive to where we are. If we lived in another society, the government might be exterminating these human beings. I'm so grateful to live here, where we have moved past those feelings, and are at least trying to struggle with the super-complex facts of what life is actually like. |
