Just did, watching in DVR buffer delayed for replays of good commercials, and super slo mo replays..

Just my 2 cents. We've owned a Chevy Bolt for about four years now. It's a great little car for about 90% of our driving. We have an older Subaru Outback we take for road trips.

For multi-car families, I find having one EV and one gasser a great combination, at least until EV ranges go up and prices come down a little more.

Well, there's no doubt ALL the big boys and a lot of the 'small boys' are all in on EVs..dozens of them coming. Big, small, sedans, SUVs, trucks and even a 'bus'.
Gonna get crowded..not only the market but crowded at the chargers as people try to 'e-gas' up.

Yup. The BEV sales market share is 22% in China, 14% in Europe, 18% in California. Though currently only 6% in U.S., as always CA shows what the U.S. will look like in a few years...

These are numbers for full electric BEV sales only. No plugin hybrids required...

The global market is in a state of radical change, and no matter what we may think, no matter what we may say, nothing can stop it.

2 week review of owning a 2021 Tesla Model 3 Long Range (353mi) with Full Self Driving and acceleration boost.

2 hour learning curve for the controls of the car itself outside of the accelerator and brake pedal. Mostly done watching YouTube videos while seated in the car poking around at the screen.

Super quiet, almost eerie when driving, lots of good sight lines with all of the glass. Range is super, acceleration is bonkers for what I've been willing to try.

Charging - level 1 (5mi/hr) does the job for us in our garage butt we have a 220 outlet there too for level 2 charging (40mi/hr) if and when the time comes.

Scheduling the car to warm up and condition is nice as well as scheduling the charing to take place at off peak hours.

The app is slick, updates are frequent and install overnight with release notes.

I think your numbers are new car sales only, so reflective of that. For example, CA has over 14M "passenger vehicles" registered as of '20 with new light vehicle sales at 1.6M in '22 (market is supply constrained of course ca sales numbers) but per the link Tesla Y and 3 are the number 1 and 2 nameplates with 61k and 56k sales through 9/22.

Interesting read in the Atlantic about EVs wrt paying for range: an inconvenient truth about EVs (their title!)

Finally, for EU, Norway's fabled EV adoption rate is essentially funded by Equinor (new name of Statoil) and are reductions in VAT (but not direct incentives) and discounts on parking/tolls primarily, so a real question of greenwashing by me. Now about 80% of cars sold are BEVs though and Teslas are cheapest on the planet in Norway (primarily due to no taxes). I'd say this is far superior (greenwash opinion aside) than US deficit spending on subsidies.

If you have kids or, like me, childish sense of humor, try out the security fart noise from the app (it’s really loud).

You can set them to fart when you use the turn indicators, etc. Yes, it really brings out your inner teenager.

I like the microbus, of course, but the wheels are wrong. If any vehicle is going to bring back hub caps it's this one. I don't see myself owning one so I'll just have to judge them from a distance.

L1 gets old really quickly. The time will come more quickly than you think.

Even with the 16kWh Pacifica PHEV L1 I left house not fully charged 1/2 the time for one reason or the other it seemed like. The 16a 220 [20/20a circuit] made it easier to manage and not get caught out. 3:20 to full. The current [no pun] 32a on a 40a circuit does it in 1:55.

You better check you data points on Level 2.

Home Level 2 rate is 7.4kW, 40mi/hr prob not going to happen @ home. Unless you got 3 phases, maybe at work, not home? The 3 will to fast level 2 if you got the juice/phases @ 11kW. So maybe that is your 40/hr. expectation??

@7.2-4hW charge rate, a 40amp circuit probably give 28-9ish, 50a 32ish mile/hr. And probably after around 55% as on our Bolt the rate tapers/diminishes.

On our Bolt the 40 amp Circuit sends Level 2 max rate the car can take. So if we had a 50amp circuit 40a charger be same rate of charge as the 32a Juicebox I believe. Why spend more on system unless you are trying to future proof a little, that does not always work out though.

FWIW, a 20/20a 16a charger is about 3.6 kW rate. You'll prob not caught out with this IMO. Sooner or later the level one will. Power outage, smart charger fart, etc.

Announcement today that Tesla will open up 7500 chargers to all EVs is good news for non-Tesla EV owners!

If I were a Tesla owner, I'd be pissed.
