Who are you (and what do you look like)?

*Real Name (first or full - up to you)
- John *Where do you live? - Currently in Jamaica Plain. Spent 5 years in Tempe, AZ, and a year in Poland. *Explanation of your forum handle. - When I moved to Poland, my boss explained to my co-workers that I was bringing my bike with me. They were expecting a guy with a motorcycle and a mustache. So, when I showed up with a bicycle and spandex, I became Sweet Johnny. *Explanation of your avatar. - I have a lot of love in my heart for New England. Hence the New England flag. *Age (General or specific). - early 30s *Occupation. - High School English teacher *Favorite Bike. - When I was about 12, I had a picture of this bike hanging on my wall. *What’s in your stable? - Zanconato road bike - lugged steel, built with love. - Zanconato cross bike - welded steel, built with love. *Fastest speed on your bike? Where? When? - about 60mph. Superior road race, Arizona. *Picture of yourself, your ride, or both together. *What is the biggest lie you ever told? - My first year as a teacher, I took a trip to Costa Rica over Christmas break which extended into the first two days back. So, for two days, I called in sick from a pay phone in a town of about 300 people... in the background the sounds of the Pacific Ocean and an expat bar.

*Ben
*Boston *Username was given to me by my college IT department and it was easy to remember when I registered *Don't have an avatar *Late 20s; told I look 15 *I work in higher ed *I'm not sure how I found the forum 7 years ago. I think a buddy told me about the classifieds years back *Probably my titanium spicer, since it's built to do everything. Disc, canti, and caliper mounts, rack and fender mounts, space for giant tires, ovalized top tube for shouldering. I have no idea why it was built that way but it's versatile and amazingly durable *I recently paired down, so currently own the Spicer as my commuter, a Saila road bike, a Tomii cross bike that I'm in the process of building up, a bareknuckle fixed gear for winter riding, and a ridiclous neon, disc-wheeled, funny bike at my mother's house. *Fasted speed was around 58 somewhere in the French Alps during the 100th tour de france. (No, I don't mean as part of the race) *Last year I spent about 8 months out of the country, so I rode very little. Years that I do ride though are around 6,000. * *I have a tattoo of my face on my chest. |

*Real Name - Eli Curt
*Where do you live? - Teaneck, NJ *Explanation of your forum handle - ANAO are acronyms for Attack Now, Attack Often, my mantra when racing. *Explanation of your avatar - the podium at Tour of Somerville last year, where I placed second. My best placing to date. *Age (General or specific) - 24 *Occupation - Insurance (property, casualty - not the sleezy kind) *How did you find the Paceline - through Google. *Favorite Bike - Currently? Pegoretti Fina Estampa. All time? Maybe the Cervelo P3SL. *What’s in your stable - Pegoretti Fina Estampa, Schwinn paramount, Tesch S22, Giant TCR Alu, Jamis Aurora, Motobecane Fantom Cross Uno. *Fastest speed on your bike? Where? When - 86 KPH. March 2013, I took mmy cannondale Caad10 to Israel for the holiday. I was descending one of those wicked switchbacks and just got into a crazy tuck. My helmet lifted off my head and I almost died. In israel, there's no "double-yellow-line rule", like we have in the US. A car was coming up the hill pretty quickly, in my lane, attempting to pass a slow diesel truck stuck in first. I squeezed between him and the wall, and then grabbed a fistful of brakes. It was pretty hairy. *How many miles did you ride last year - 5,000 or so. *Picture of yourself, your ride, or both together. *Make up an answer to at least one additional question - I got married in August last year, so maybe that's why I didn't ride so much? *What is the biggest lie you ever told - I once told someone I had a normal-sized nose, but it's really quite aristocratic in size. *Tell us something fun - F is for friends who do stuff together, U is for you and me, N is for anywhere, anytime at all... |

*Where do you live? San Francisco *Explanation of your forum handle. It's mostly my name... *Age (General or specific). 57 *Occupation. Retired from IT field *How did you find the Paceline? Found this nice forum while searching for info *What’s in your stable? 1996 Litespeed Classic, 1987 Raleigh 531C, 1988 Nishiki Tri-A *How many miles did you ride last year? > 1000 and < 2000 This seems like a nice place to hang out, lots of nice and knowledgeable folks here. I've been riding for a long time, but more seriously since the end of middle school (44 years ago). Now that I'm retired, I'm able to ride a lot more. It's been great. I'm in the process of rebuilding my 1987 Raleigh. It will be resto-modded, a vintage bike with a modern drivetrain. I may have some questions for you guys while this is going on, in the near future. Meanwhile, here are pictures of me, and my Litespeed. |

Real Name: Tom
Where do you live: Colorado, just outside Boulder Forum handle: I love Boulder County biking Age: 68 How did you find Paceline: Can't remember. I've been reading it (lurking) since I bought my first Serotta in 2001, and it was the Serotta Forum. Now I'm a new participant. What's in your stable: Serotta Concours, Serotta Colorado lll, Seven Axiom SL, Waterford RS 22, Raleigh Competition GS How many miles riding last year: 5453 miles Additional question: What is the class you have taken that you have enjoyed them most? Answer: the Barnett Bicycle Institute Repair and Overhaul Course Something fun (not really fun, just a story) : I was riding into Denver about 30 years ago on a four-lane busy street. Suddenly a German Shepherd escaped his pen and, from across the four lanes, he made a bee-line for me, with the intent to kill; no barking, just ears-back, teeth-bared blinding rage and speed. I sped up, but I knew he had the angle and speed on me. Suddenly I heard, [I]thump, thump[I] followed by a piercing cry. I looked around, and he had been hit by a car; he died within minutes. The man who hit him said it was an accident, but that I was extremely lucky it happened. Sad that he died, but at that moment, I was very grateful. Picture (from 2009) |
