After reviewing the forecast headed out this morning to tackle a couple of the local punchy climbs, believing it would stay dry for several hours. Started in nice cool temps and overcast skys followed by 3 hours of steady rain. It never fails, grab the rain bike and it will stay dry, grab the bike with no fenders and nearly shot racing tires, it will pour, lol.
This season has been really lucky with flats, but this weekend the piper was paid, three flats on this bike, which ultimately meant I was down to patching tubes in the rain on the side of the road. I think it's time to put my Veloflex racing tires on the hook for the season! Was dressed right today though, and Friday was beautiful weather, so overall a good weekend of riding!

Working too hard today fighting the winds trying to get the CSI in the "19 mph" club to take pictures. That said I did grab one of Snowbasin with the cellphone. We've had a week of much needed rain and then yesterday the peaks all got nailed with snow.

I think this was one of those unusual weekends where the weather was so much better up here vs. down there. |

Photos from your rides.
Me and AndySTI did Bend > Crooked River Canyon > Prineville > Smith Rock > Lower Bridge > Bend today under mixed skies but decent temps - and with the most gnarly head- and side-winds I’ve ever experienced (29mph gusts according to the weather peeps).
115mi for me in ~6:30, w 4,400ft of ups. 126mi for AndySTI. I’m cooked - but what a way to close out the road season here. Photos by AndySTI - I don’t have the skills to ride no-hands in that wind!

Is it force perspective or that glove seems unusually big?

Got some leaf-peeping miles in the Wasatch and Uintah Mountains this weekend. Asphalt, gravel, and even a little bit of smooth singletrack. Magic.
We don't get the same variety of colors that we did in Vermont or Michigan, but there's just something about the quakies (aspens) contrast with both the clear blue skies and the deep pine forests that is unlike any other bit of fall foliage. Some weather rolled in later in the day, as you can see. Yes, that is snow on the pines in the last photos. We hustled home to hot chocolate, and it took some time to warm up after that afternoon escapade. Wonderfully worth it, however. |

The River Mountain Trail near Las Vegas/Lake Mead (Hoover Dam). This 34 mile loop is for cyclists, pedestrians and (parts of it) equestrians, but no motor vehicles. It is only "1900" feet of climbing per lap, but it's not flat-ever. One is going either up or down-at one point it is 9 miles of uphill. Still in the 70's out here.

True story. I don’t know how people do 400K brevets or more. I could not have done another 20mi at the end of this, let alone another 130+. Blows my mind.
