65 miles on the first day that hints of Fall. Long sleeve jersey and tights never felt like overkill!
Menemsha, with a cool old Jeep for sale, and Jay Lageman's harpooner sculpture in the distance looking as though it's about to pierce the Jeep's roof! Second photo looking over the southwestern tip of Katama Bay to the dunes of Norton Point Beach.

Lake George
I was hoping to get over to Whiteface Mtn but the summit temps were colder than I was equipped for, winchill about 20F. Instead, I explored plenty of good climbs in the Lake George area. Prospect Mtn is a toll road that summits at 2,000+ feet with terrific views; 5.6 miles at 5.3 avg. Free now, handful of cars.

Thanks to Steve in SLO for the route. Happened to come up to SLO again while the wife has a training. Super peaceful in the early morning and was done before it got hot

Last Wednesday I went on a solo combo gravel ride and photo expedition . . .
. . . into Boreas ponds on the south side of the Adirondack High Peaks region. This week may be my only chance to see some peak foliage this season in the ‘Dacks, so I didn’t want to miss out. I found the road officially closed, but the construction guys up there were really nice and paused while I rode past where they were working on the road. I only saw a few other people up there. One guy had carried his 20 lb. pack boat in and the other was walking out with a canoe and a pile of stuff. He really could have used a bike and trailer!
You just can’t really lose either riding or shooting photos at Boreas in any season, but it’s doubly true at peak foliage time. I rode my Lynskey Pro GR gravel bike that I like more every time I ride it. For photos, I took my Camelback pack filled with my Nikon D7500, 10-20mm and 28-300mm, and 105mm macro lenses plus my macro ring light to play with, my little Lumix as a backup and, of course, my iPhone. I planned to spend the whole day both riding and photographing, and I kept the Nikon at the ready attached to the front d-rings on the pack with some small carabiners so it won’t bounce around as I ride. Morning sun provided plenty of light as I pedaled up the dirt road, but shortly after I arrived at the ponds, the clouds began to thicken and soon it was totally overcast. I made the best of it and then pedaled out along a different, increasingly challenging route that finally dumped me out on Upper Works Road up by Newcomb. So I rode the 11 miles back to my car on Blue Ridge Road for a total of 28 miles, 17 of them on gravel, and then headed home via Flanagan’s in Schroon Lake to get some dinner. On the whole, a satisfyingly adventurous day! BBD
