I'm tempted by the EKAR swap. My gravel bike currently has Force 1x11 (10-42) and I'm generally happy with it. EKAR would obviously give me slightly more range tighter spacing (would likely get a 10-44). I've also heard the brakes are great, but haven't used them and the SRAM ones are fine...

That looks like:
$84 x2 for shifters/calipers
$80 for rear derailleur
??? for cassette (looks like $250 for where I'm seeing it)
new chain
Freehub swap for my I9 gravel wheels from XD to N3W (not sure if available, but probably $100)
Probably a new direct mount chainring for my Easton EC90 cranks
New rotors?

Probably not worth it, but laying out what it would even entail

Honestly the brifter set Would be great for a single speed build (or bar end) at that price

I have Ekar on two of my bikes. Once the shifting is set up right, it works great. The brakes are the best of any bike I've tried -- lots! However, I also bleed them more often than any other. At the end of the day, it's slightly more finicky than other groupsets, but it's also extremely fun to operate and the gear ratios are excellent for both road and gravel. My favorite groupset to use, if not to maintain.

The EKAR groupset prices are crazy. I could use some new pulley wheels for my Ekar derailleur, which are ~$40 OR I can just buy a brand new Ekar derailleur for $80.

I already picked up 2 chains for $13/ea...

Hmm.....very enticing. I have DA9100 set up on my Aspero and love it, but would prefer a bit more range, which EKAR would give me.

What kind of hub body is required for EKAR on a HED wheel setup?

There is an Ekar specific freehub body for HED wheels. There are some HED wheels with said freehub on super sale at TPC right now, or if you already have wheels, I happen to have a 5-pawl HED Ekar freehub body for sale in the classifieds right now.

IMO.
Did he start the rumor, or did he comment on what is happening?

Hmm….gotta do a little research. I can get more range with a long cage derailleur and bigger cassette. I’d love to have Campy across all bikes, but having 13spd on gravel bike doesn’t help me on my 12spd road bikes….except for the bling factor.

A Redit articles says they are closing their doors. Seems to be a trend in the bicycle industry.

I snoozed and losed.....looks like most of EKAR stuff at TPC has been snatched up.
